Several people have asked this question at various times. I can only answer for myself.

1.) Hornet Korea is still a great looking simulation and has one of the better mission builders. Although more wingman commands woud be nice.

2.) While not up to the modeled avionics of Jane's F/A-18, it still has a lot to offer, especially if they remodel the single engine thrust.

3.) I grew up (simwise) on the various versions of Hornet. Climbing into the cockpit is just plane comfortable.

4.) It is one of very, very few simulations that you can record your missions and play them back from many different angles. You can also exchange videos with friends.

5.) I want the higher resolution.

6.) I hoping that they are making enough changes to the sim both visual (no straight edged rivers, etc.) and play wise to rekindle the enjoyment I get out of flying it.

7.) $20 is a downpayment hoping that a totally new version will appear.

Great points Speedbrake. Bottom line is that $20 for the bottoms up enhancement of a proven excellent product is money well spent IMHO.

And to be really simple to answer the question: Why the Hell not.

Hornit, from a previous Varmint (Jon Blum) post:
The Gold version will have a number of improvements ranging from graphics to flight and damage modeling, with probably the largest change being OpenGL support. I think the upgrade will be $19.95 or there about.

-I'm sure he'll further answer your question.

And from the GSC website: http://www.graphsim.com/games/koreagold-win/kor-windows.html

Hang on a min.
GSC released a demo a couple of months ago of FA-18 Korea Gold. I've just been playing it! Is this new product an update on that demo? or is the new product simply the full version?
Either way, the demo looked fantastic, but it was still the same sim as the original Hornet: Korea. I didn't notice any FM improvements. The graphics were the only thing that had changed (IMHO).

Hopefully I've got it all wrong!
I downloaded the demo from here: http://www.3dfiles.com/games/fa18koreagold.shtml

The demo is an early preview. It demonstrated at least two things: OpenGL and the 1024 x 768 resolution. There also seemed to be some graphics changes. We have been told that there are planned updates to certain aspects of this simulation but we will not know for sure until the new distrubutor speaks up or GSC speakes up to tell us what has been improved. it is not Jane's F/A-18 but then again it doesn't take the horsepower to run either.

The basic answer to your question is that F/A-18 Hornet Gold has changed it's name to Precision Strike Fighter, still produced by GSC but distributed by a third party.
