I was thinking of hosting a dedicated Server game of OFP tonight, any takers?

I just re-installed OFP/Res a few days ago. I'd love to get in some coop, but I wont be able to make it tonight. If you want to plan one for next weekend I'm in. I need to know what mods to use though. I've got just about every mod released, but I haven't even tried them all.

I had some fun missions I used to play with some friends at our LAN parties. I made one that had enemy patrols and other enemy units randomly scattered around the map. One of us would start in a random location on the map falling in a parachute, and the other two would have to locate and find the lost guy. They started at a base and could take a helicopter or use trucks to search. You had to be careful in the helicopter because enemy AA was randomly scattered around the map too.

That's the big problem, what mods.
I have the OFP GOTY edition installed. No mods yet.

Any large good coop map suggestions would be appreciated.

You don't really need any other maps, the default islands are good enough unless you've been playing a LOT.

As for mods, the FFUR one and WGL (especially) mods are the current "hot" ones.

G+ - great to hear you are hosting co-op games. In hopes of circumventing cd drive conflicts with patching up from original game and separate add-ons, I ordered the GOTY last week.

My two cents - adding mods acts as a filter against an already limited pool of players. Can also sometimes burn up time trying to solve conflicts or individual install issues.

But if you are limited to just a couple of regular friends or players, who don't play with others on line with varying installs, then what the heck.

OK, how about a regular, Friday evening game? Say from 9PM EST onto the wee hours.

We'll stick to the stock GOTY version of the game.

Now Jedi, I know you're an expert at OFP (you certainly have some neat sound scripts).

I'd really like some suggestions for say, a 1-8 player COOP map (or three).

Magnum had us setup with a few at one time, but I don't remember their names.

I can even setup a dedicated server (that way my PC doesn't LAG out). I can even setup TeamSpeak on it, password protect it to keep the rif raff out, etc.

I'm free Fridays and would like to join you guys. Just give the time and TS info and unless something unforseen comes up I'll pop a few downrange with ya.

I have all the popular mods except FFUR. I have FDF, ECP, all the BAS stuff (my favorite due to the cool rifles). This is the stuff I have installed

http://www.ctd-racing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2597

If you need a TS server let me know, I can probably hook us up with one at Frugals.

OK, a 7/24 COOP server is running for you guys!

Server information.
Hostname = "+G's COOP Server"
IP Address=24.224.235.189
(you can also try connecting directly using the REMOTE button and typing the IP address directly)
MaxPlayers = 16

I put a few COOP maps on it.
Let's see how stable it is.

PS - If you notice any smacktards playing, let me know, we'll put a password on it.

LOL, yeah, I used to change those sounds every time I played. I've been on the same set now for well over a year, though, since I play it so infrequently. \:\(

I'd certainly like to try and be there sometime!

Good deal. Let me know of any good, small squad COOP maps.

I like ones that let you respawn, I'm still a cadet.

Thanks +G! This is great. Got an e-mail confirm that GOTY has shipped, so I'll wait for that rather than dance with the separate packages.

Respawn is definitely my preference; as is co-op. Even so, often enough you end up as a seagull performing crude UAV missions for The Living.

There are some good missions at various sites:

A direct link to a Co-op list of 195 missions on the OpFlashpoint.org site:

Thanks Eugene, I'll check into a few of those today.

The "stock" server is running now, I have a batch file that will restart it if it crashes.

I'd like to suggest that anyone who wants to play on Friday, that you go on the server earilier this week, go through a few of the missions. That way they are already downloaded into your PC.

Next up is a good TeamSpeak server.

PS - Be patient with the server, the downloads will start, there's a slight delay before the file starts, but it will start.

Guys, you may know this already, but Magnum's TS server is still up and reliable currently:

69.12.31.35:8908

But if +G gets another one up, so much the better!

Hoping for the GOTY edition to arrive by tomorrow, but so farit has not arrived. I'll keep it vanilla at least for now, for compatability.

Just popped in. Used the straight Res shortcut and played the guerilla assault on Lipany mission. Chose 7 AM and it was very nice atmosphere \:\)

Connected no problem using remote. Mission was 850k and loaded up quickly. Everyone was killed including me. \:\)

The fog keeps you on your toes.

Seemed to be a little lag, but I usually host, so what I saw might be normal. Seemed to be about a one second disconnect between shooting a guy and his reaction to the round. I'm good to go for tomorrow.

Didn't join Magnum's comms because no one else was in the server, but if he doesn't mind I think that would be a good solution for comms.

FWIW, there should be no reason to reinstall, unless I'm forgetting something, just use your normal resistance shortcut/exe.

I noticed a few people have gone in. The server seems very stable.

That first map is pretty good. The second one, where you're a bunch of civi resistance folks, who have to take down a bus (for weapons) is very hard.

If Magnums TS is running that would be good, less drain on the server Bandwidth.

I think I'm able to join using the local IP address on the LAN so that cuts down on my ISP bandwidth again (I have two Firewalls and two seperate "streams" of bandwidth from my cable company).

Would like to suggest something, but I have no clue which missions require which mods.

As for type of missions, I like infantry attack/assault type missions. Helo or para insertion a definite plus. Especially ones that require some tabbing to the objective, maybe passing through or around several enenmy held towns. I don't much care for missions where the enemy has lots of armor. I'm a grunt in OFP, not too interested in driving or flying, but can in a pinch. I can make for a memorable truck ride \:\)

I had a quick look to find some missions, but most of my old links seem to be dead, and the editing center seems to be undergoing some upgrade.

One thing I used to do alot when hosting was use some templates in the mission wizard. I could then move the enemy units and our start point around, making it a little different each time. We knew what to expect, but not from which direction etc.

Wish I could be more help in finding missions. There are thousands out there, but I'll have to have a look through my MP folder and see if I remember which ones are good and require no mods.

Intially the goal is ZERO mods, just the stock game and the latest patch. If we get a core group playing it, then we can probably look at mods.

I like similar missions, tanks aren't my cup of tea, unless there's lot of tanks for me too!

I downloaded a COOP MP ones from the sites you mentioned. Not many support respawn though. I didn't get a chance to go through all of the ones I downloaded but several do support respawn.

These are small, so if any of the veterans here could send a few to my positiveg@gmail.com address that would be great.

Yep, that's a good idea to eliminate potential problems. Of course some standard mods would be good, BAS and FDF especially for what I like. But I agree with your thinking.

Most guys like respawn and it's fine. I don't mind if it doesn't have it, I've always found a one-life thing makes the game play more realistically as everyone tends to be more cautious and get their noggins down. But of course it's all for fun and some guys don't have fun flying their seagull around \:\)

Yeah the seagull kinda sucks, but if everyone becomes one quickly the wait isn't too long!

I'll read up on those mods you mentioned.

For FDF look here http://koti.mbnet.fi/~fdfmod/

FOr BAS look here http://www.ballisticaddonstudios.com/

FDF has nice units, weapons and some core changes, like muzzle sway and increased recoil, but they went way too far in binocular sway IMO. I can hold a pair of glasses steadier with a 12 pack in me \:\)

BAS has awesome rifles and helos.

A buddy of mine (SpaceMarine) on the home LAN, Dbond, AirJawa and myself. We'll launch at 9PM EST.

I don't think Magnum will mind us using his for now.

Use it...going to keep it till SimHQ's is officially up and running without problems... be nice to see tactical games played on it for a change, instead of warcraft and WOW which seems to be played more, lol. ;\)

Thanks Magnum. Good games tonight, I'm getting a lot better, it helps to have people on your team doing a good job too.

Hopefully we can settle on a good map rotation.

I'll leave that server running, and if anyone wants Admin rights, let me know.

Good stuff guys, thanks for the server. I lost comms, and after the mission I left to get it sorted and got sidetracked and couldn't make it back.

In the first mission we played, the Lipany one, I was moving along in good form, not too far from Airjawa. Heard lots of shooting, but hadn't seen any targets yet. I was sort of leapfrogging with him and boom, a grenade lands between us, both dead. Same thing again after respawn, I caught up with him, started looking around and boom, another grenade took us both out. So I've now died twice and haven't even seen a bad guy, let alone fire the weapon.

In the first task force mission I probably shouldn't have opened up when I did at the last target, as that set the bees to buzzin' and it was over quickly.

Good fun, thanks for the game.

Saturday on a rainy day.

Anyhow, really need some solid COOP Respawn missions in that rotation.

Hey guys, been watching this thread, and was wondering, are you still using "vanilla" install or any additions yet? I'm gonna try and join you guys this Friday (21st).

BTW, I'm a great pilot if you need someone to do any flying for insertion or EVAC.

+G, thanks for checking on this. GOTY not here yet - this is the only tracking message I've got:

"Your item was processed and left our BELL, CA 90201 facility on July 12, 2006. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later."

That makes a week so far, but with a weekend in between, "Media Mail" method, maybe that's not yet a bad sign. Hoping delivery is today or tomorrow, and planning on Friday evening session if at all possible. Otherwise, I'll write to GoGamer and see what they say.

Rev - speaking for myself, I intend to stay "vanilla" to make sure all works well, on and off line, at least initially.

It's vanilla so far. Like I mentioned earlier, once we get rolling I'm up for some graphic enhancements, but I'd like to stick to the time-frame originally modelled. But I'm easy going, what ever the group wants. We can always use a good pilot, need a mission or two to go with it though.

Too bad i don't have web space at the moment, i could have hosted a few files to pop on over top of your basic install that even a moron would have trouble getting wrong.

For a simple, stable, fun playing install,

I like the stabillity of ECP.

I like how BAS's stuff works well with it too, and i'd made a package a while back that includes all of BAS including Tonal island and Jam 3, just drop two files into your OFP folder and all that confussion is taken care of.

I like Sanctuaries 'stand up straight' fix.

And I like a slightly modified MFCTI (just updated civil vehicles and allowed for more player owned vehicles per team. Also stashed a few lil birds around just to make it interesting).

MFCTI is a Conquer the Island mod that can be played in MP mode.

The idea is to conquer as many towns as possible from the resistance, and thereby collect revenue to wage war against the russians who are also trying to CTI. Takes about 4 hours by myself on vet mode, might reduce to two or three with other humans playing coop - and double if MP opposition is human.

If you don't have missions built, this is a great way to get people up and started till you do.

I also made a few of the other difficult addons (CoC, CBT, VIT, LSR, BAS) into single action individual installs and then turned them into a complete single install, so would be OFP, patched 1.96, add ECP, add my 1.5 gig addon (about 800 meg zipped), done.

There were other things such as Berghoff's tree's and NIM_Dynamic_Weather, and some updated terrains etc - looked and played great.

Well, not in today's mail either. GoGamer says not to worry, Media Mail can take longer (I'm sure that means certainly before the end of summer...)

I'm in New Orleans next Friday night, but back after that. Good luck tonight.

Thanks for coming out guys, it was good fun.
I learned a few admin commands, starting to like the tanks a bit more.

Good Voice Comms are a must!

I'll be tweaking my ISPs connections a bit, and I have to remove a few services running on XP on that server, the P4-2.4Ghz box was maxed on a few of those maps.

Yes Spacemarine is a newbie, that's his first REAL online with OFP. I'm only a couple of weeks ahead of him. He's been playing GhostRecon for a while, so this step up in realism threw him off for a bit. He was sitting right next to me, so I gave him a slap! ;-)

Destructo and I had a mutual FF incident as well! LOL. Oh well, all part of love and war right!

Once Hardcore has a one stop fixer upper mod running, we'll test it. I can host it, but I'll have to password the section of the site, he mentioned it would be around 800MB.

Been a while since I'd been through these files and am just going through them now, trying to re-familiarize. Updating a few things and adjusting the readme accordingly. Shouldn't take more than a few days max.

What I need though is a place to upload to - ftp info.

Hardcore. When you get it done, Email me again.
I'll setup the FTP site and get back to you though. I'll publish the info here later.

Oh for everyone who was on last Friday, I rebuilt my home network this weekend and I have good news.

I basically tripled my upload speed when hosting OFP.

Turns out one of the coax cables that T'ed off the cable splitter was bad. When I replaced it, then ran a speed test, the upload speeds went from 300Kbps to 900Kbps.

Can someone test connecting to the server by not using gamespy? Just connect via the remote option.

24.224.235.177 is the IP, password is friday.

I'm trying to get my Firewall config nailed down, but I can't test from "outside". That's where you come in.

OK, so it works, just that it doesn't show up on the GameSpy lobby list (via the game).

That's fine, as long as it works.

Re: Hardcore 's Addonpk

It's ready enough @835 Meg Winrar

Needs some tweaking and refining over time but runs good! I tried it with ECP, Y2K3, and WGL5.

IMHO:

ECP runs clean and smooth, nothing fancy. If you don't pay a lot of attention to external skins, it definately runs great, and with the right addons is totally acceptable.

WGL5 seems to run about the same, but with a noticable difference in realism - it's much tougher, but definately grows on you. With the right addons is totally excellent - My fav.

Y2K3 seemed a step toward WGL's realism, definately had fancier skins etc, but seemed a lil buggy.

My choice would be WGL5, but not too picky.

Would like to hear from others on what and why they like or don't like whatever else - suggedtions?

============================
*****My AddonPk CURRENTLY INCLUDES:*****
============================

Sanctuaries Stand Str8 script (optional)

Revive Respawn script option

WGL_texture_replacement_pack

Berghoff's NaturePacks BRG_N2, EN, N4

NIM_Dynamic_Weather

Hardcore 's MFCTI Conquer the Island, game script

Hardcore 's music - Mixture of OFP and 'The Borne Identity' theme (optional)

Hardcore 's BAS Complete (includes all BAS and everything required for BAS, including Tonal Island & JAM3)

Hardcore 's LSR (Laser's) Complete (includes all LSR and everything required for LSR)

Hardcore 's CoC Artillery100-Minesv1 Complete

Hardcore 's CBT Armoured Complete

Hardcore 's VIT Complete

Hardcore 's Civil Vehicles (small collection)

README folder full of relevant documentation specific to these particular addons
===================================================================================

====================
*****Why Hardcore 's ?*****
====================
These were simply compiled by and for myself for the purpose of creating addon packages and all their many other required addons in quick injections so to speak, to make more complex packages with more speed and ease. They were then made into a single package installer for members of Hardcoresims.com so as to remove the complications of adding excellent but complex multipart addons to everyone's game in a way that guarantee's everyone has them installed quickly, properly and identically for clean multiplayer data transfer - a must!

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

Yes Friday's is plain vanilla v1.96.

Now that Hardcore has his all inclusive upgrade, we need to understand how we can still play "stock" and "mod" off one install dir.

It's on. The servers up, I just need to adjust the missions more, but it's ready.

I don't think it's showing up in the GameSpy browser so just connect manually.

The servers IP address is 24.224.235.177
The password is friday.

+G, the GOTY package finally arrived. Will try and get it installed, patched and test in the next couple days. Can't believe how long it took!

A thought - given how each player's hardware is different than the next guys, and how add-on's cancreate a conflict on one guy's config, but not the next - it might be wise to avoid adding lots of fancy add-ons all at once.

Vanilla works for nearly everyone, of course. Perhaps if there is a a general need or desire for a certain kind of mod that is aimed at MP (many mods primarily enhance the single player experience), it could get tested for compatability...one mod at a time.

I agree, let's get a few core players going, then determine the mods. Hardcore has an all inclusive package made up, but we need to understand how stock and mod can coexist and be able to switch between the two at will.

I've found a few good maps for hosting, so maybe this Friday will have a bit more players on, we had three on the 21st.

PS - Haven't forgetton about the Webspace Hardcore, just haven't got around to setting up the FTP location, maybe tomorrow.

Hi Guys,

I'm building myself a new comp in the next couple of weeks and won't be able to join you until then, but count me in! I have the GOTY edition, and did have a couple of Hardcores mods installed (until my HD crashed hence the new comp!).

Is this really going to be a regular thing? I've played all the offline missions in GOTY now and MP is great, but finding a "good" server to play on is tough.

One problem I have is that I only have 900KB for bandwidth for hosting.

That might change when I swap out my modem this week, but more than 6 players and some notice lag.

Thanks, +G - I enjoyed the scenarios on the server last night. Ran very smoothly. Of course, would have been more enjoyable with other players \:D

I'll be around the next few nights, but away for vacation the next couple weekends. But looking forward to getting together for some co-op missions.

My ISP cut me off by accident and told me i'd have to re-apply and would take a month and there was nothing else they could do to get me up. Of course I told them this wasn't acceptible and that I'd look elsewhere, so I expect to be back in the fall.

Have fun! Maybe Armed Assault will be out by then.

Sounds good. Once I get over my Chrome Hounds fetish, I'll be back.

I'd like to get in on this, too, when my time allows. Probably not in the next few weeks, but by the end of the summer I'd hope!

With +G's server operating, it is a snap! I think fall/winter will see an increase MP gaming, from the sounds of it. Should be fun.

So the password is friday. The servers now showing up on the Gamespy list (needed a few more ports open).

It'll be down tomorrow, when I replace my Cable Modem (getting a newer model, handles UDP traffic better).

I'm going to put a dynamic IP address logger on that PC as well (I host other services).

About time you started posting in here! ;-)

Friday should be a go.

I now have the new Motorola SB5101 modem from Eastlink. Supposedly handles UDP packet streams better than the old one.

My DL bandwidth improved to 5MB (from 3.5MB) but my UL capacity is the same at 950KB.

Looks like Eastlink has locked that UL "speed" for their customers. Time to talk to my inside guy about tweaking it! ;-)

It could be your router, but I know that Eastlink has a major piece of hardware installed that throttles all the peer to peer download stuff to very low <50KB values. I had a tour of their data center.

They basically were forced too, so many illegal downloads from P2P software was going on. If they hadn't there'd be no bandwidth for surfing, etc.

Have you tried CTI? I've only played it 'single player', but it's a great mode. Don't know how it performs on MP, but if relatively smooth would be fun to try. Check it out here

Small download, simple install.

How was the performance Jedi? Did you play on a dedicated server?

When I play I just let the AI be commander and I lead one of the teams.

Password is Friday, the Server will be up around 9PM EST (I might turn it on earlier). SpaceMarine and I probably will not be on until 10PM EST (want to watch Stalingrad, the movie first).

24.224.235.177 is the IP address for the server.
It should show up on the GameSpy list though.

It was just 2 people and the performance was fine. For the guy in charge of building stuff, though, it's a whole new ball game.

The AI is actually fairly good about building up and out. Usually we would get into a seesaw battle at one town until we got the upper hand (via tons of research) and built powerful enough equipment to attack their home base.

I play this all the time. It's the key addon in what i had put together for MP - everything else was an aftermatter.

I just tried it vanilla tho in a fresh ECP install without all my touchups and I'm sure it would be a blast. The addon and the game itself look a lil complex at first glance; but with one or two there explaining it, you'd have it installed and understood by all players in a matter of minutes.

I'd say:

- install ECP over a 1.96 clean install.
- Add these MFCTI island addons.
- Add Sanctuaries latest standup straight script fix
- Add Berhoff's Nature packs...

And you would have a very simple, very exciting MP install to get started with.

That's what I suggested, in my addonpack; but with quite a few other beauties for future mission building with complete BAS, CoC, Vit, packs already properly added, as well as a good respawn script.

I can still get this to somebody if they can host it (800+Megs.rar).

Then it would be:

- install ECP over a 1.96 clean install.
- Add HC's Addonpk and away you go.

I've been scouring the net for WW2 and BAS CTI's. I'd be very interested in any CTI missions featuring BAS units.

I would recommend checking out the Australian OGN server as that has BAS units and also CTI. I don't think the two have been combined but the addons are constantly refined and easily downloadable via ofpwatch.

Sundays are devoted to CTI.

I don't play too much anymore as my family keeps getting larger but plenty of people turn up if you join the server.

For some reason that server isn't showing up on GameSpy game lists in OFP? I'll try using another Firewall for it, or reload my old FW config (I recently rebuilt the home network, new cable modem, etc).

Hardcore has his all inclusive mod ready for us to try. I'd still like to try again this Friday evening. I'll try to make sure the server is up and running later in the week. I'll have a web page dedicated to OFP for the regular players.

speichts.com/games/ofp It'll have a link to Hardcores download (password protected, so message me at positiveg@gmail.com for details).

I'm looking for good, MP COOP, RESPAWN maps/mods.
I know this isn't that realistic, but for the sake of others boredom, it's best to have the respawns. We'll see about getting more realistic (one life to live) when AA arrives! ;-)

Agree strongly re respawns. For some of us at least, not much time available on an evening across timezones. Spending it as a seagull is NOT so much fun!

Just back from the mountains...planning on gaming this coming Friday (or sooner)?

Welcome back, +G - hope you had a good vacation. Timing-wise, I have to go out of state on business Wed-Fri. Not back until weekend for MP. Will the server be up, anyone game then, or wait until following Friday?

Hi all, I just got my GOTY edition and installed it. I have 3 installations (all based on version 1.96):

1) Original
2) FFUR
3) Vietnam The Experience

I'll be on the lookout next weekend to see if there will be any multiplayer games up. Even though I used to play OFP quite often, I'm a noob to the MP aspect of it.

The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

Alas, the 360 is now taking my time up. So I don't think I'll be in a hosting mood for this game. When AA comes out, we'll see.

+G, I downloaded some good coops we've been playing that has the ability for a teammate to revive you, if he can get to your bodybag that appears after you die \:D
I think there are 4 or 5 missions I can zip up and they don't require any addons though we play with FFUR mod.

Letterboy has been playing OFP with Panzer and I with FFUR, and it's the same blast it's always been!

Deuces, didn't know you did OFP! \:\) Where are those missions available? We're always on the lookout for good missions that are a minimum hassle to run and are NOT one life only for players.

Yea man, just about every weekend with another 3-4 guys.
I've got quite a few missions I d/l'd a long time ago we run. All require no additional mods and run great with FFUR. Nearly all have respawn into a remaining squad member and if they don't and are good, it's pretty easy to make a respawnable version of them. My favorite are the ones that require another to revive you. I'll zip some of them up for you to checkout.

I zipped up the ones we've been playing. You guys can pick through em. I'm pretty sure they all have some sort of respawn. About the only glitch I've found in the ones that allow your squadmates to revive you is occasionally someone will die and thier bodybag ends up on one of the remote lil islands. You'll to do a chopper extraction to get him back \:D

Grab the zip HERE
Just unzip them all to your MP missions folder. Some are folders rather than pbo's These I've decompressed to add a respawn but they work fine as they are.

We'll be runnin some Friday and Saturday night and if anyone would like to jump in, I can post my hosted Ventrillo server and info.

Forgot to add that I've DL'd those missions, but since this time I've not played OFP again as we've been playing GRAW coop almost exclusively. However, I will give these a shot as soon as I can convince them to try OFP again.
