I love everything being done for WW2F. But I'm gonna risk getting some people mad at me. I know everyone wants to see the Hurricane finished, and that C47 was nicely done and it looks as though the new B17 is going to be another Ramm masterpiece.
However, we have a Mustang that getting a bit long in the tooth. And of course, the P38 is still the same airplane that came out of the box five or six years ago. Hammerd is busy at work giving the Luftwaffe pilots the best looking planes in any sim on the market. I'd love to fly a P51 that is as beautiful as that Hammerd 109K. Or a P38, that I don't have to be ashamed to park next to Hammerd FW190S.
It's interesting to see the screen shots of a Fokker D7 but every time I see something like that , I wish the builder had taken some time to work on a plane we really need worked on.
I realize it's probably boring to work on the same project for months, but I'm hoping the Mustang and especially the Lightning haven't been forgotten. They aren't up to par with the other models in WW2F, but I know you guys can make it so that every airplane in WW2F is the most accurate, beautiful model of it's type in any sim!

hi there joe. now, not to slap you down a notch, but, if you've ever tried working on some of these 3-d mods, you'd know how long it takes to come out with a really great looking plane.
i myself have tried working with the j3 editor, and the progress i made in ONE MONTH pretty much amounted to a slight distortion of the port aileron.
most (all) of the guys in the ww2f community that come up with these great 3-d mods eventually have to take a step back from any current projects they're working on just to either get perspective, or to take a break, just to keep from having an annurism.
eventually, mods for pretty much every plane will be availible. for one, rammjager was working on a new p-38 3-d mod, and bigdog was working on a corsair (at least i think it was bigdog). there's also a hurricane in the works, somewhere...
and just wait till hammerd lets his 109k out of its cage (so what if it's axis, the allieds'll catch up soon)!
so, in short, be patient, young padawan. be mindful of the living force. those mods will come...

and besides, have you tried the p-51b yet? it ain't stale, not by a long shot!
btw, if i did'nt make a whole lotta sense, it's because it's 11:04pm, i'm a couple beers under, and i'd been working on a lobster boat since 4:15am.

Well, speaking as the builder of the Fokker, I can certainly tell you this in all candor: I too sat on the sidelines for a long time and wished for a lot of things from the modders in this community.

I started the Fokker purely as a way to learn, develop, and master the skills needed to use the editor and map and finish planes, so I didn't have to sit by and wait for someone else to do something that I wanted to see.

As far as I'm concerned, everything I've put into that plane will pay off in spades. Now I know what I'm doing. And I'm literally working day and night, not just on the Fokker, but a number of other projects that other modders really need help with to try to bring to completion.

Judge said it many times: all the tools are here. It just takes an effort to pick them up and learn them. That Fokker represents my effort to do so, and it has been a thorough and complete education.

And one of the things that I firmly believe is important to the "future" of this sim is that someone try to see where else we can take it. That's a big part of the things I personally am exploring and trying to do.

So, no, I don't regret it a bit.

BigDog has them. I also have a copy, minus any work he may have done on them in the meantime.

Speaking as someone who has "zero" experience making mods, I can say that any mod, whether it be a map or a complex custom 3D model, is a welcome addition to WWII Fighters. Without the contributions of dedicated modders out there this sim would have gone down in flames a long time ago.

Well said Pooch.

The hardest thing to understand by someone that hasnt done the 3D work is how much time it takes. Even with an understanding of 3d we are like primitives m aking stone tools. Yes EVEN HAMMERED. You dont think he couldn't turn out that quality in a tenth of the time in something like CSF? No every move we make must be done manually.

I have the 38 un-mirrored except for the pod. It neds some tuning but please understand this is just a slap dash side project until Ramm completes his 38. I also need a COMPOTENT 3D artist to pick up the Hurri. I am just too tied up with Ardennes44 and the P40 to devote the time needed to it. I snagged the project because I didn't want to see JHAT's work go to waste. I am hopimg I can get Greb to pick it up but haven't been able to ask him about it.

Fear not. The Hurricane Lives. And also so does the Corsair. Yeah Bury somehow I managed to keep that version you sent me for the tailhook. Lord only knows when someone may finish it.

I work on whatever inspires me at the moment. I'm here to have fun, if I want to work I can easily go make money instead.

I knew I'd get some people p...ed off at me. It wasn't written to make any body angry. I'm a nut for all the mods in this sim. I've got every one of them in a folder! If my computer ever crashes I'm sc....ed!!
I guess all the beautiful work makes me realize how close we are to having an incredible model of all the planes in WW2F. If I didn't love all the work I wouldn't even be dreaming about them. When I sit and look at Hammerds 190 ,I think,"man ,imagine a P38 with that much detail!", that type of thing.
Ramm, Hammerd, Pferrer, Canon,..et al,amaze me! I can just barely turn on my P.C. so what you guys do is pretty much like magic to me. Don't take any thing I said in the wrong way. I didn't mean to start more turmoil!! Lol! The problem is, it's like having something you want that's just THIS close, but ya can't reach it. Hope everybody's still talkin' to me!

Bigdog, that s great news. Did you guys work on it after I gave it to you? Or is it still the same?

Well, I'm not angry.

You just have to understand what kind of commitment it takes to do something like this.

Nobody can give up so much personal time and put so much effort into one of these planes just because someone else wants them to do it. It has to be a plane they really love, that they really want to do, because they're gonna wind up spending a LOT of time with it. If I'd still been married when I started on the Fokker, I'd be divorced now for sure...

I guess it's just unfortunate for the P-38 lovers that either none of them have had the time to do much with it, or the active modders haven't been moved enough by it to make it a top priority. I like the plane, but it's not one I want to do any work on. I wouldn't be able to sustain enough interest in it when there are so many other things I personally would rather do instead.

As far as Ramm's P51 is concerned....just be patient, trust me. It will be worth the wait,
just like Hammerd's Anton was (and that was the plane I wanted to see more than any other...I'm still itching for a template!).

Ram, you think its possible to take a plane and turn it in to a tri gear or maybe take the P-38 and remove and engine and use the tri gear? I might start on a new plane

Joe, I think most of the guys doing major 3D mods here are doing it for the fun and experience more than to build a specific plane set. So much effort is required to do some of this work, that without a serious attraction to a subject, interest wanes. I'm no exception there, I prefer German hardware (could you tell? ). Although I've worked on the Allied planes as well, I have more fun with the Axis stuff. Judge gave us fantastic tools to modify WW2F...it just takes a lot of time to do things. If we were using mainstream modeling software with all of the really cool features, you'd see much more produced.
I suggest you crack open the J3 Editor and give it a try, it really is a lot of fun, and you may be the right person to make those new planes come to life. If I can do it, you can.
I remember, some time ago, someone else around here asking a similar type of question you did . My response to him was the same. What was his name?...Rammjager?

Razer, you can't change the attitude of the planes. It really screws with the flight charcteristics. Kind of fun to watch though.

Ah, yes. That was back before you taught me the ways of the force. Now the J3Editor is my b***h, or is that the other way around?
