Hammerd,

That's got to be the best looking 109 I have ever seen in a flight sim, bar none! I would like this kind of detail for IL2 as well!

If only IL-2 had large/multiple textures. For now, this is as close as I can get:

Hey Ham , you have left your mark on IL2. This means you are doomed!!!!!!!!! Now no one will leave you alone, not ever!!!!!!! It's going to be work, work, work. Oh sorry, I just got a little carried away there. Your work as always is the best. Carry on.

multiple texture uses up a LOT of texture mem and games with a ton of planes flying together would be effected by this. Since WW2 doesn't let you have a bunch flying at the same time your ok but WW2 does do a good job on handling all the textures.

Great stuff!
There are a lot of very good looking skins for il-2,despite it,s limitations.

Amazing detail there on that 109K! As a matter of interest what's the approximate face count and total texture size? The model you've done there would easily be good enough to use in non-real time rendering - it's incredible to see it in a real time engine!

Have fun
Finn

From what I heard FB will allow 1024x1204 and hopefully it will be more than 256 colours. I think this should help. I have to say I like IL2 109s though F, G and K series are missing the vertical bar in the oil cooler is missing as well as G-2 and G-6 early the oil cooler a bit too large. Also the G-2 cockpit (front part) doesn't have the frame thick enough from the side view. Other than that I pretty much love IL2 109 models.

I like your Red3_G2_03 skin.

I'm currently holding off on painting skins until FB comes out then with better quality I will get into it. I'm also waiting for :

PS: I just finished building Hasegawa 1:32 Bf-109 G-14, later on this year G-4 should be out I can't wait.

I'm going to look at FB also. 1024X should allow some descent textures.
Thank you, Finn. The K-4 has 6255 faces, 7471 vertices, and uses 11-512X512 bmp's and 8-smaller(64X and 128X)bmp's for textures. She's not for the weakest of computers , but about the same overhead as the 190A I did.

Hammerd,

I got some modelings questions if you don't mind. I got the latest Maya Unlimited from a friend and I also got Bf-109 G-6 font/rear/left/right/top/bottom schema all converted into BMPs, I would like to get into modeling. Do you have any recommendations on how should I start ? I wish there was a tutorial somewhere on the net that would tell me what I need to learn or how do I go about making a 3D model out of 2D schemas...I can't find anything so I was wondering if you could help. I do have 3D studio 4 as well though I haven't look at it yet. I did go through some modeling tutorials from Maya manuals...

Peter

Peter, are you interested in doing the G-6 for WW2F? If you are, neither program will do you any good, sorry to say. The only ways to make/modify models for WW2F is either in a text editor or with judge's J3 Editor. I recommend the J3 Editor, with an occasional bit of work in a text editor. We don't have a conversion tool that works with any mainstream 3d modeling software.
You can still use the background images in the J3 Editor though. The best way to learn it's use is to read the documentation that came with it, do some experimenting, and ask questions here. I have a mapping tutorial at my site and there are a few other resources available from some of the other modelers here.
It's quite addicting.

Hey Peter, for WW2 Fighter models you will need to have the "J3 editor" Created by Judge. If you need a copy let me know. The documentation that comes with the editor is very good. Although 3d modeling is definatly an art. You will have to practice, practice. and oh yeah the most important thing! Practice! Once you get the editor read the info how to access model files, and how to use basics in editor. Once you accomplish the feat. Get back to us, we can pretty much keep you rolling! Good Luck!
