Hi All,
I just bought this sim again ( had it before with an older system) and was wondering the best graphic settings to put it on.

I have tried both 3Dfx and Glide and both make the game jerky in gameplay with grphic setting maxed out. I thought i would be able to max out the settings with my current setup, but this may not be a possibility, so what things can i turn down to increase frames without affecting the look of the sim too much.

my system is
PIII 733
Voodoo5500 AGP
SB Live
128 ram

thanx for the help.

Since you have a Voodoo5 you definitely want to run under Glide API (vs. Direct3D or OpenGL) as it was originally written for same. Graphic detail is the heaviest fps hit, and also try 16 bit color (although this may cause sky-banding vs. 32 bit). Also turn off the 'target box' - unrealistic anyway. btw: you didn't say what monitor size/resolution you're running at. 1024x768 seems best for most.
edit: I've got a PIII 923 (o/c) and GeForce3 and still can't max out, so don't feel bad. There's a price to be paid for gorgeous graphics!

I've been running WW2 Fighters on My V5500 1024x768 2x FSAA in D3D for over a year now. Tried all 3 availible APIS and D3D Looks and runs better on my rig at least anyway. The 3D clouds are the frame eaters on any rig, but I can get by with a 1 gig running on a CUSL2-C. Never seen below 15 FPS here. Hovers around 22-30 for the most part. I use the "Wolfpack"(Allied single mission 10)as a graphical preference setup FYI. Waiting on The AMD Palimino to lite the fire under my beloved V-Card. Giddy up Go Boy! That's My story and I'm stickin to it!

I also run WWII with D3D on my V5, at 2xFSAA, 1024x768. Just about everything maxxed-out for detail, I stil get over 20 FPS. I'm running it on a T-Bird 1.2, tho, so results may vary. The only graphics problem is the boxed text effect during flight. I really don't know what I'm going to do down the road if I have to get a GF3...

that "boxed text" I had it too, until I switched to OpenGl, now it's perfect. As I said in another post, you just need to change resolution in ww2.ini manually, because the game doesn't allow you to choose more than 640*480 in OpenGl.

I fly in OpenGl, 1024*768, FSAA 2x2, 16bit color, 32 bit buffer (default setting in there it seems).

How do you "change resolution manually" TooCool? I presume a config setting in some file?
TIA

you open ww2.ini with notepad (it's in your WWII folder) and you scroll down until 3Dgraphics section. there your have among different lines the height and the width which is your resolution.

by default you have height=480 and width 640 and you can change it manually, then exit and save. And that's it

Saaaay, you ARE TOO COOL !! Worked great, Thanks. Seems the ol' FPS is a bit fasterin OpenGL as well (but what did I expect considering Microsloth's Direct3D API).
