Mine was a space shuttle sim (I think it was just called Space Shuttle) on a TRS-80 Model 3. 16k of gaming goodness.

BTW, the system had 4k and a cassette drive (read cassette player attached by wire to the PC) when we bought it, but then we maxed it out and flexed our muscles with 48k RAM and Dual (count 'em, two) single density 5.25" drives. I was in heaven! Monochrome built in monitor as color was unheard of.

For those who have visitied, check out MiGMan's Flight Sim museum - it's GREAT!!!

http://www.migman.com/

My first was Flight Simulator on the ZX81. I think it required the 16k RAM pack and took ages to load off tape - and then only after I found the right volume setting on the tape machine! Check out the screenshots at

http://www.migman.com/ref/simhis/PSION/PSION.htm

I also played on the Apple II a bit. Jet was very cool!

Cheers,
Kenji

Like Kenji, my first sim was Psion's 'Flight Simulator', on the ZX Spectrum. I remember the problems with volume control, whilst loading. The tape recorder supplied and marketed by WH Smith was supposedly the best. Ahh, memories....

I spent more hours than I care to remember with Solo Flight on the C64.

What about AcroJet, now THAT was cool!!!

Steve,

is that the one with the plane seen from behind? I remember playing it at my friends Commodore 64. I snuffed at it even back then, as it did not provide a cockptit view .

Think it has a behind view with the instruments on the bottom half of the screen.

Remember the 6 line wireframe mountains... cool!

Oh what memories, my first three were in random order

    [*]Flight Simulation by Psion
    [*]Nite Flite by Hewson Consultants
    [*]Fighter Pilot by Digital Integration

Those were the days when 8 color graphics were state of the art

I can remember being in total awe watching my dad play Flight Simulator on the Spectrum (I think i was about 6 too). First combat flight sim was F16 Combat Pilot, again on the Spectrum. Still got it somewhere, I think it's gathering dust in the attic.

I remember that i never actually landed the thing, as the graphics were quite bad, so you couldn't see the runway until you were right on top of it.

MS FS4, my first flight sim. USNF is still my favourite though. I could never get really into EF2000, I don't like dynamic campains to much, but I like the scripted campain in EFT. Does anyone know what the first sim to have a dynamic campain was?

I came to computers late in life, so I don't go back as far as most of you guys, but ironically, my first sim (or game of any sort) was EF2000. Man, what an expectation that set up for me!
I have purchased at least 30 sims since then "Chasing the Dragon" and few have given me that melt into your chair, sink into your monitor and "be there" feeling I got from EF2000.
Almost all the games I have bought I would consider good value for the money. The only real stinker was Jetfighter 4 - but it lets me bomb the x-wifes house every night and I don't go to jail. So I'm keeping it.

Cheers,
Matt Jones

Think this may have been the name of what hooked me. I can not remember ... black and white ... wire frame on the Apple II.

God ... I feel so old all of a sudden.

First sim I ever palyed was F-18 Interceptor on the Amiga500. After that my friend and I fiddled with FalconAT (I believe) on the PC for a little bit. Played Falcon on the Amiga as well. But the 3 sims that formed my opinion about sims were F16 Combat Pilot (still one of my favorites), BOB-Their Finest Hour, and Flight of the Intruder. All played on the Amiga.

Didn't get a IBM PC till AFTER EF-2000 came out, so I missed out on a lot of other classic sim.

IMHO F-16 Combat Pilot proves that a sim doesn't have to be hardcore and complex to be GREAT. It's game world was smaller than Typhoon's and it's campaign a lot more simplified, but it did a lot of other things right.

Hi All,

My first flight sims were Gunship and Project Stealth Fighter on the Commodore 64. When was that, oh so long ago ;-)

Things certainly have come a long way since then, and in those days they were state of the art :-)
