Andy, Badboy,

will their be take offs and landings? Can we taxi to the runway? Or is it all going to start in the air

BTW Are you guys doing a guide for this sim? The old EF2000 guide was amazing .... anything like that being done?

I believe the AI will taxi you to the end of the runway...then it's up to you! You may return and land whenever you want.

Leon and I hope to be involved with this sim...we are still in the 'talking' stage. Seems to be quite a bit of interest but no firm deal has been made yet.

Both Leon and I have 'warmed' up to this project since we got our first look at it. Our feeling is that by being more of a 'mainstream' sim, it will ultimately offer more to a wider range of folks than has been the case with sims such as Janes F-18 (which is a fine sim, but seems to have a narrow appeal).

Is there going to be interaction between the control tower and the pilot? Maybe a weather report, or something like that?

So far I've used the request vector to airbase, permission to land, and final approach tower dialogue, but no weather reports.

I like the way they have cut out having to taxi the aircraft. Rage have the right idea they are cutting out dull parts of the sim like taxiing and A-A refueling and concentrating on delivering a sim where the action immerses the players without having to wade through a ton of super-hardcore stuff.

Air-to-air refuelling... DULL?....What?

That was one of the coolest features in EF2000, in my opinion. I believe it represented probe and drogue refuelling better than any other sim (but I guess F/A-18 was the only other sim to do this - and its frame rates are so crappy they make refuelling almost impossible).

Fishbed77, let me rephrase that:
'Refueling is impossible'
I've only hooked up once or twice before, and I always broke off before two seconds is up.

A To A refuelling can be dull, but it is a challenge. The best part of a flight sim in my opinion is not the switches, etc. but the dogfights, especially the real big ones. I think Rage has got it right to concentrate on the symplicity of flying the aircraft, for it would just benefit the dogfighter...

Taxying to the runway in EF2000 was one of my favourite features, something that is sorely missed in modern simulations. I believe that Rage should include an option, manual or AI taxi. I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world that enjoyed that feature. I was so damn excited each time I passed a Tornado or Harrier, it was the greatest. Seeing other flights taxi...wow...now THAT defines the pilot experience for me. I'm also sure that some people might prefer not to go through the taxying procedure, that's why there should be an option.

Refuelling in EF2000 wasn't that difficult, and really became a breeze when using the autopilot features. Heck, I'm really going to miss fiddling with the MFD's... Refuelling will sorely be missed.

Typhoon is really a mixed bag of feelings for me

Yep same here,
I fear that Rage's decisions to ommit certain features are not for the sake of gameplay but purely for budgetarian reasons. (which is quite understandable really)
So far I'm still looking forward to this sim but I sometimes fear that it might become a little to simplistic for me.

Cheers

I'm at point in my life now where I don't have the time time or patience to get into a Sim like Janes F/A18 or even Falcon 4. I would like to have something with a shorter learning curve. I went out and found a copy of Total Air War and loaded it and am having a blast. I wish I could find a copy of EF2000 V2. That was the best Sim and played smooth on my lowly P100. It would scream on my machine now. I too would like to see A/A refueling and taxiing in Typhoon (even as an option).
