PRESS RELEASE!
“B-17 Flying Fortress” and
“Rowan’s Battle of Britain” take flight!

The people at GMX Media and Shockwave Productions have some great news for air-combat fans. Shockwave has been developing two new air combat simulations based on the critically acclaimed “B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty Eighth” and “Rowan’s Battle of Britain.” Both titles are due to be released early next year.

Watch for a Computer Pilot Magazine exclusive interview with Shockwave Productions in a future issue.

I just got this in my e-mail, from PC aviator, with box pictures of B-17 II and BoB.

Any info?

The "based on" is what's got me stumped. Well whatever it means, they've certainly picked two of the deepest and most immersive simulations ever \:\)

"...has been developing two new air combat simulations based on..."

What an intriguing choice of words......

Yes, I see it too OSRAM. The head and ears are out already. Our old BoB is beginning to show a golden glow, just around the edges.....

I wonder if these could be console ports.
I also wonder if the source code has changed ownership.

Sounds like good news. Maybe Scott and Shockwave got permission to use some of the codes from B17 in the "New" B17. And AC to do the Norden too. \:D

The linked article is rather vague, and I suspect there will be an official announcement from GMX shortly -- however, if you re-read the article, it seems rather obvious to me that the product already has A.C's Norden, among other things ;\)

Here is the official press release that just went out:

LONDON, UK (November 5, 2004) - GMX Media and Shockwave Productions have announced they have decided to produce a new WWII air combat game entitled, "Battle of Britain: Wings of Victory!" Earlier this year, GMX Media acquired rights to the former and critically acclaimed "Rowan's Battle of Britain." Shockwave Productions is developing the new title, which is scheduled for release in early 2005.

"With the huge success of Firepower Shockwave were the obvious choice for the development of Battle of Britain: Wings of Victory, we are glad to be working with the great guys at Shockwave again." commented COO for GMX Media, Eugene Perry. "Development is going well and on time, the game is looking fantastic, we look forward to showing it to the public."

"The original game from Rowan released in 2001 is still the most complete and authentic reproduction of the Battle of Britain ever done. Battle of Britain 'Wings of Victory' is building on this strong foundation to create something truly special. Every member of the team brings passion to their work and it shows in the quality of the game," said Scott Gentile of Shockwave Production Inc.
