This is such an interesting thread to follow, Todd. I'm actually impressed that Albert did so well with a damaged machine. I also don't know whether to be impressed or saddened that an AI career is running rings around my latest attempt at slaughtering my own pilots at a more prodigious rate. mycomputer

Nice work! Did you mention when creating the pilot whether you selected novice or veteran for the autopilot?

Sgt. Ingles (and the WOFF team) get all the credit for his flying and fighting skills. I did select veteran pilot just so he had some sort of a chance at surviving as long as possible through the war. I figure unless he becomes an Ace or gets promoted to leadership, he doesn't get to choose what plane he flies, either. The squadron has Nieuport 16s but he doesn't have the clout yet to request one.

Lots of thrills but no kills in a duel during a thunderstorm. Better luck next time, Sgt. Ingles.

I wouldn't worry too much. I hear they're not all they're cracked up to be...

40 hours flying in the Great War for Sgt. Alfred Ingles! No more kills but a few fun scrapes.

The Ministry of Defense regrets to inform you that on the 16th of May, 1916, Sgt. Albert Ingles (A.I.) was shot down by Archie during a dangerous balloon busting mission. During his second pass over the balloon, a nearby Archie burst was close enough to his plane that it either wounded him or damaged his aircraft such that he was unable to maintain control. He plummeted directly to earth and was presumed killed on impact behind German lines. Services will be held at 0600 hours tomorrow.

With over 41 hours flight time and 2 confirmed kills during his little over a month served at the front, Sgt. Ingles was a credit to his squadron, to his family and to the King. He will be missed.

Well that was a good run. A couple of spectacular victories there for him, but the war was just too big. RIP. Thanks for documenting this as it's been very interesting to follow.

I am curious how many 'no action' missions Alfred had, where he just flew an uneventful patrol.

Most of them. Being early in the war (1916) and with forced encounters turned off, the vast majority of the patrols had no actual engagement. I think a total of 3 or 4 dogfights out of 40 missions.
