Please note that by "RPG" I mean to include everything from the old school isometric RPG's to the modern day 1st person/3rd person RPG's.

Here are my top 5:

Baldur's Gate 3
Knights of the Old Republic
Elden Ring
Witcher 3
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

There may be others but I just can't think of any right now. These are RPGs that I've really enjoyed and actually completed over the years.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Witcher 1
The Witcher 2(played it almost 3 times)
The Witcher 3
Deus Ex: Human Revolution(took me quite a few years to get into this one but ended up enjoying it)

Ultima 6 - Open world gaming in the 80s before "open world sandboxes" were a modern thing, except rich in story, characters and lore.
Hero's Quest 1/Quest for Glory 1 - Played through dozens of times. Those quest boards in Witcher series and other games located in guilds and towns? They started here.
Ultima Underworld - The absolute first and and original first person 3D CRPG(and still the best), of which all others have been born from, including ARPGs such as TES series, System Shock, Deus Ex, Bioshock, Prey, etc.
Baldur's Gate 2 - Need I say more? This was the definitive experience
Wizardry 8 - Beat this and you earn my respect, and earn yourself an unforgettable experience in return
Dark Souls 1 - Many noobs will try, but almost all will fail. Those who succeed will be rewarded in immeasurable ways.
Morrowind - The best of all TES games, without question

Honorable mentions:
The Dark Heart of Uukrul
Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2
The Bard's Tale
Mass Effect 1
Sentinel Worlds 1: Future Magic
Final Fantasy 2 and 3(USA nomenclature and chronology)
The entire Legend of Zelda series

I have not played through Baldur's Gate 3 yet.

Also, I will be bold and daring and say those who have not played the Ultima series yet and call themselves CRPG fans are... not CRPG fans. Give them a try!

CRPG = Computer Role Playing Game

That's a very good and informative post Blastman. I'm guessing that we will eventually get a Baldur's Gate 4 considering the massive critical and commercial success of BG 3. Can't wait!

KOTOR, Mass Effect and Skyrim are my top three at least.

1. Planescape Torment - this is the Holy Grail
2. Baldurs Gate 3 > Baldurs Gate 2 > Baldurs Gate 1
2a. Mass Effect 2 > Mass Effect > Mass Effect 3 > Andromeda
3. Fallout 2 > Fallout New Vegas > Fallout 4 > Fallout3 > Fallout1
3a. KOTOR > KOTOR2 > Old Republic
4. Skyrim > Morrowind > Oblivion > Daggerfall
4a. Divinity Origin Sin 2 > DOS1
5. Final Fantasy 7 > Final Fantasy 9 > Final Fantasy 7 Remake

I am counting games like Witcher 3 as more action than RPG

Morrowind
KOTOR
Fallout New Vegas
Kingdom Come Deliverance
Suikoden II - I was only on Playstation, but I'm sneaking it in anyways.

I finally enjoyed Mass Effect 1 on pc after a hit and miss start some years ago. I loved the Mako missions and was disappointed ME2 removed them. I played quite a bit of ME2 but I eventually lost interest.

These I've put many hours into but have yet to actually complete:

I've always enjoyed Titan Quest which is an action rpg.

I've had lots of fun with Pirates of the Caribbean and City of Abandoned Ships by Akella. I really wish someone would make a serious, next generation age of sail rpg in the spirit of the Akella games.

I also really enjoyed the first Risen.

I had over 300 hours in Skyrim and was in the final realm if memory serves but got so burned out on it by that time I never finished the main story. Mods make it much better but also eat up valuable time just to get it in a better state.

Alphabetical Order.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Fallout 3
Fallout 4 = 1519.4 hours played, 100s of hours in Creation Kit
Witcher 3

I like to make my own Mods -- so, modified all the games to my tastes at that moment. Its a significant part of my game time.

Replaying/remodding Fallout 4 today.

To Allen:

Modded Skyrim is quite excellent, and can actually surpass unmodded Morrowind. Presently my Skyrim build has 550 mods and climbing, and is a far richer and more enjoyable experience than stock.

I've been mulling reinstalling Kingdom Come Deliverance. I've put a few hours into it so far but it just hasn't "grabbed" me yet.

You now have (just released) Caribbean Legend In It´s free version (no story line) and It´s paid version (full)...

It´s basically a remake of City of Abandoned Ships.
Steam:
Caribbean Legend Steam store

Glad someone mentioned Titan Quest, because It is a good game that never comes up.

For me It´s always been...
- UnderRail
- Baluders Gate I, II, I still need to play 3 which I have but not Installed yet.
- Neverwinter Nights
- Solasta: Crown of the Magister
- Titan Outpost

Titan Quest is the best "Diablo" like game. Maybe followed by Grim Dawn, but I like the setting and story of Titan Quest far more.
I played the hell out of Baulder's Gate 1 and Diablo 1 and 2 back in the day and they were great. I haven't played either of those in quite some time though.
Neverwinter Nights was also great, but I only ever remember playing and beating each of those once. Everything else I put on that list I've played multiple times.
I've also never beaten Baulder's Gate 3 so I cannot put it in any list.

Regarding Titan Quest and Grim Dawn. They are probably in (or near) my "top 10" games overall. But, are linear story lines.

Titan Quest Anniversary Edition -- 276.8 hours. Plus many play-hours in previous editions.

Grim Dawn -- 576.2 hours

Another mentioned above: Fallout New Vegas -- 517.9 hours play plus many hours of Modding

I was going to start a list with the Charlie G on top, but I see that I was barking up the wrong tree, so....

1. Oblivion with the Shivering Isles addon
2. Morrowind
3. Fallout 3
4. Skyrim VR (will probably move up the list when I play it more)

I think that those are the only more or less pure CRPGs that I have played; I have played quite a few more that qualify as action-RPGs or whatever, but they scratch slightly different itches.

That's a bit, no, way too much. I may give in, regardless, but so far only From Software titles command such a buy.
