The gifted crowd over at The Vintage Aviator in New Zealand, in collaboration with German aircraft builder Achim Engels, have done it again.

And built a reproduction Fokker E.III Eindecker. With another under construction.
Watch it fly here: https://www.aviationfilm.com/articles/eindecker/index.shtml

It really is quite an attractive aeroplane. And seems to respond very well to control inputs, even though a wing-warper. I especially liked the sound of the Gnome engine.

I can well understand how, with a machine gun firing through the propeller, it would have given it's pilots a strong sense of 'cutting'edge' technology.

That's amazing! How many full scale, wing-warping, rotary-engined, flyable examples are out there? I've seen a few 7/8 scale one, which I think are in the ultralight category, but this is too cool!

Aeroplane Monthly August 2023 Issue did a write up of the new TVA Fokker E.III with two articals. Which I have.
One was on the build, and who made what; the second a 'pilot's view' of flying the Eindecker.

Would it be ok for me to type out the 'pilot's view' article here? I'm sure there are many who would find it interesting.

Thanks for that link Boom; great to see a historically-realistic replica flying, complete with wing warping. Appears to fly fairly well. Also interesting is that they went with the slightly more pronounced, "front-bulge" variant of the comma rudder on the Eindecker, as compared with the other (more subtle) comma type seen for example on this replica (and in various WWI-era photos, where both variants of the comma may be seen).

Cheers all & good rudder spotting to you,
smile2

Indeed. We need to ask him what he does when he has a Nieuport on his tail!

Slightly off topic, but I actually had a dream recently where someone was flying an Eindekker. I was on the ground, though.
