I “repurposed” a 32” Samsung TV as my “new” PC Monitor. And I am stuck on 1366x768 rez which kinda sucks as I was getting 1920x1080 out of my old 24” monitor.
The TV is about 5 years old.

So…:
- Am I missing a setting?
- Is this TV too big? What’s typical size these days?
- Should I just buy a new monitor? Feel free to offer suggestions.

(This is not at all my area of expertise, so thanks in advance.)

You have to consider what the 'native' resolution of the TV is - and especially whether it's an older "HD" unit (note HD - which is 720p - as opposed to "Full HD" which is the 1080p you saw on your old monitor.)

If it's an HD model, then it's going to run by default at 1366x768 - otherwise, HD units tend to look awful. It can't really run higher than the native resolution.

If you're not sure, provide the make/model and I'll try to find out. You can Google the make/model to find details, usually.

Edit: Sorry...I should say that, if you want higher resolution, then yes - it's likely you'll need a new monitor (although a 1080p TV will have the resolution you want, plus almost certainly be cheaper). TVs aren't as good as monitors for desktop viewing distance and gaming, but lots of people use TVs and they're adequate.

Still, I'd confirm the resolution on your TV before making a decision.

If you want to consider a monitor at a bargain, PM me. I have several I need to sell and I might be able to make you a deal wink

Thanks for all the advice - and the TV does look like crap. So I went w/ this:

Looks great...if you have a GPU capable of driving that number of pixels, you should be all set (and, of course, a system that's balanced reasonably well with a GPU that can drive 1440p...)

Best of luck smile

Interesting. A couple months back, I bought a SAMSUNG 34" Odyssey G5 Ultra-Wide Gaming Monitor with 1000R Curved Screen -- off the same Amazon page.

Mine was nominally an ultra-wide 27". I deemed the 27" a MISTAKE (for me). My eyes like 32" (my main monitor is 43" -- borders on too large). Otherwise, the Samsung performed like a very good monitor. Now, it sits on the shelf due to being too small for my eyes.

Three weeks ago, I got a TITAN ARMY 32" Curved Gaming Monitor, 2K 1440P 144Hz Monitor on a good sale. I liked the detailed specs. I like it in action. Not suggesting it to anyone else -- everyone's eyes can be different.

Edit: FWIW as I have mentioned, I have 9 operational PCs in the house. So, lots of monitors smile

The largest has a full featured Samsung TV 75" screen. We use it as our main TV. The PC/GPU running it are gaming level (R5-7600X and RX6700X GPU). PCs are a hobby.

Samsung G9, 49 inch super ultrawide 5120x1440, which allows for 32:9 aspect ratio.

Totally game changing when you have such a wide field of view. Think VR but without a VR headset.

You will need a very powerful PC to utilize this screen, however. I have a 12900KF and 3080 Ti FTW3 to drive mine.
