I Google News December 7th and found very little.

Only major news site that had an article

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/12/07/pearl-harbor-day-photos-1941/71823546007/

A comment made by someone online is correct:

I would guess that today’s youth have very little interest nor do they care about Pearl Harbor day. To them it’s just something they had to memorize and then forget to pass a history test.

Considering the fact that 9/11 is a mostly forgotten event now and that only happened 22 years ago, I am absolutely not surprised that Pearl Harbor is even more obscure to the current day generation.

If an event builds patriotism, you can be sure the media will do their darnedest to ignore it.

The news media coverage for 9/11 for the last couple of years has been incredibly light. In fact, someone on SimHQ started a thread about that very issue this past 9/11 and ironically I believe it was made by a non-US member of SimHQ!

S!

I won't forget. But when I am gone, the grasp slips just that much more. I think of how much I study history, how aware I am of things that happened in WW2, like Pearl harbor, but also 100 years before that and 1000 years before that. History is critical to understanding the world. But it is being ignored today. It is being erased today. I won't forget. But there will be fewer and fewer like me, and many here at SimHQ. History has become something to find shame in, not wisdom nor pride. People 'forget' because they are not taught the vital importance of learning from it, instead made to feel shame for their tangential relationship to it. I won't forget. But there will be fewer and fewer until no one remembers what they might have forgotten, had they ever learned of it to begin with.

No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

I kind wish we had all this cloud storage and smart phones when I was in school. Every year we had WW2 veterans come into the school and share their stories. It was a great learning experience and they're all gone now and I don't remember as much of those stories as I'd like. Maybe I should've taken better notes. It's a shame so much of it is forgotten and lost time already.

I know we are in a different time now.

For me, Dec. 7th was a notable and remembered day as I grew up, because so many who lived in those days were very much alive.
My grandparents and great aunts and uncles were all of the Greatest Generation. Also, the 70s were full of great movies ( Tora Tora Tora, Midway, A Bridge Too Far, Patton, etc. etc.) and again the veterans of the war were in their 60s. I soaked it all up. And as i grew up, I learned more and continue to gain respect for them.

I do hope we can continue to revere and respect them. I know I will.

Sunday December 7th. A day which will live in infamy.
Rest in Peace.

I same as Tarnsman.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.
