The article applies primarily to M.2 SSD costs.

PSA: Why Black Friday Might Be Your Last Chance for Years to Get a Great SSD Deal

SSDs are likely to get a lot more expensive in 2024, thanks to production cuts and increasing demand.

For the past few years .. capacities increased and faster PCIe 4.0 (and then PCIe 5.0) drives became readily available, the best SSDs steadily became more and more affordable

And then in early 2023, prices basically fell off a cliff

But as nice as that kind of price dropoff is for consumers, it's terrible for companies who have to saddle the massive costs of the equipment and fabs required to make SSDs. So throughout the year, we've seen Samsung, Micron, and Kioxia (formerly Toshiba) cut production of the NAND flash that SSDs are built around.

It's possible that the best SSD deals have already passed us by and stock is low enough that we won't see much in the way of new lows this Black Friday deals season. But all signs seem to point to increasing solid-state storage prices heading into 2024 and for the foreseeable future. So if you need a new drive and have been holding out for a sweet deal, the coming days may be your last chance to snag one.

Brace For Impact: SSD & NAND Storage Prices Expected To Rise By 55% In 2024

The storage industry is expected to see a major increase in prices with some industry sources quoting as much as a 55% hike for SSD & NAND products.

Companies like Samsung and SK Hynix have already implemented a price increase in their storage products, and others are indeed following their steps. It wouldn't take long when we see the effect of the price increase being translated into consumer markets, hence if you are in for upgrading your SSDs, now might be the best time.

As it happens, I did upgrade and buy extras a few weeks back.

I wondered if I was being dumb. So far, it seems it may have been a good idea. We'll see next year.

Just a current article that says the same things:

SSD prices predicted to skyrocket throughout 2024 — TrendForce market report projects a 50% price hike

The return of $100 1TB SSDs.

The 50% figure given by TrendForce is the goal of companies like Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron, which produce much of the world's NAND. From today's prices, an increase of 40% will reportedly get these companies back to breaking even, and a rise of 50% will mean profits instead of the losses that threatened bankruptcies earlier this year.
