Microsoft Windows 12 Could Require a Subscription

Microsoft is apparently considering this approach for Windows 12, which is likely due in 2024.

it would make sense to move to this model to increase its revenues by requiring monthly payments.

The company sells Windows 11 Home for $139, but deals abound that reduce that price to around $20, making a $9.99-per-month subscription something that wouldn't make much sense in the long term for most people.

Many of my W11 Pro installs were "free" W10 upgrades.

When paying for W11, I got all my W11 Pro "lifetime" copies for under $20 each -- some under $10.

Paying $10 a month per W12 install for all my W11 Pro PCs (9 installed/in-use, 3 just sitting on the shelf) would be too much ($120 a month).

Since we only use 3 or less at a time -- and not "all day". I would never-ever get the value. nope

I hope not. No way am I paying a monthly fee for Windows 12. I'll stick with 11 for as long as I can. If it wasn't for a few games I still play I could move to Linux.

Vienna, 2nd rock left.
I truly hope if they do that's the dead of them.

Not only is the move to subscriptions on various software products a blatant money grab that no other market would allow, but it would also mean they will force all kinds of updates to your system without which you'll lose the registration.

I really want legislation that makes it clear to software companies when they are selling a product, that they are transferring ownership to the buyer (like in any other business).

RUMOR, rumor, rumor:

Now, articles are saying NO Windows 12 this year. Rather, just more Windows 11 updates.

Some say the updates will emphasize AI. No one (outside of Microsoft) seems to know for sure. We'll see.
