Some good X-Files nostalgia here. X-Files link I only watched it on an ad-hoc basis, so couldn't really get into the alien story arc. It maybe didn't make sense anyway, or was there some sort of closure?

X-Files megafans like me love posts like these. The alien invasion/conspiracy was superbly written through season 6. If you paid close attention to what was going on in the mythology episodes it all made sense. Unfortunately, that mythology started to unravel during season 7 and it only got worse in season 8 and 9. Things that used to make sense no longer did. Of course much of this was due to the fact that Duchovny left the show full-time so the show ceased to be centered on his quest and it became more focused on other mythologies/conspiracies and on other characters like Reyes and Doggett. It turned out to be a poor replacement.

There was a rumor Chris Carter and his writers were trawling Conspiracy Forums and websites in the 90,s looking for story ideas.. Oh, I don't doubt that at all! I think I'll be re-watching the series later this year. I'm long due for a re-watch.

After watching Duchovny in Californication(and quickly deciding to never watch the show again after a few episodes), I am not surprised at all he does not believe aliens exist. In a way, I wish I had not seen that show at all, for it tainted my impression of him.
However, my view of him is not nearly as tainted as that of Simon Pegg, who used to be funny, but now he's downright annoying, since his personal views materialize in almost every single project he partakes in nowadays.

What's interesting is that Californication ran like 7 seasons but I'd say that by now it is largely a forgotten show. Sure, hardcore fans may remember the show but it's not discussed or brought up at all anymore in any pop culture articles. It left no indelible mark like "Breaking Bad" did.
