Eisenhower's order of the Day
"Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force: You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking."
He also made a speech that was only prepared if the invasion failed and seemed to take full responsibility for it.
:"Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone."

He never spoke of the day to me - or any of his actions. I don't know how or why but he was given Canadian citizenship after the war and lived there for years. A breed mostly long gone.

Remember D-Day would not had been succeeded without this costly failure and waste of human lives. And because a poorly conceived and conducted operation that ended in total failure doesn't make compelling viewing for audiences outside Germany perhaps? And even the Germans probably wouldn't care to watch it.
Of course for our particular subset we'd all see it for certain. But box office doesn't rely too much on the wargamer demographic I don't think.
But the 'good guys' got their asses handed to them and most mainstream viewers wouldn't want to watch that right? The good guy has to win in the end to stick to the formula.
But you know, now I want to see this movie.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Because Dieppe is a totally unknown event to the general population. I grew up on military bases that had streets named after WWI and WWII battles. I read as book about Dieppe. It was a slaughter.
I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us...very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad.
