I just watched the video from Apple.

I must say that initially I am impressed.

Me want.

I don't do Apple. Took that stance years ago. It was cemented when they were caught releasing updates, to slow current and older iPhones down, because they wanted you to by the new version. LINK

And anything that is super hyped, I immediately do not want it. I don't do hype. I don't do lineups for a phone. I don't believe hyped shortages.

But now Google owns my @ss. So pick your poison I suppose. Early days with Android, you could add memory cards for $20 (Apple charged $100 per 8GB). Android you could change out your own battery. Apples where sealed. (so are Androids now). Apple was constantly changing their chargers.

I just got a Galaxy S23 Ultra. nice phone. 200 MP camera, that is just crazy. But it is way more phone than I need, but I wanted the biggest screen possible. That is basically the only option that mattered to me.

Oh, and Bill Burr nailed it. re: Steve Jobs worship. (NSFW for language)

OH, I will never strap anything to my head either. I have no interest in that world. Just like I don't talk to any of my devices, I don't even do voice to text. It crosses a line in my old man world. Not going there. Hell, even articles with videos, I choose to read them instead of watching the video.

Yep, this is probably me. I'm ok with it.

The problem is you can't use the YouTube insert video tags with the start-video-at-current-time link, only the full video link.

This device seems more like an interface device than a true VR device, geared for linking into the Apple ecosystem only. I also think the emphasis is on augmented reality, not so much VR, but maybe I haven't seen enough about it. And it's pricey, at $3500.

I tried the direct link from my browser. Usually that works.

I tried a few and none worked, so my guess is that the steps taken to fix the site speed impacted this site feature.

Weird. The custom tags that handle the video embedding are still intact in the control panel.

i have no way of knowing what may have been done on the hosting service side of things. i suppose it is possible that they did something to firewall settings, or somesuch...

Heck no

Apple had to string suicide nets up around their factories to prevent workers from killing themselves.

Never forget.

Meanwhile fools that pay stupid prices for their stuff and sip their lattes, oblivious of the human sacrifice to bring those products into their hands, in the name of fat profit$.

I don't support Apple.

Looks impressive from a technical point of view. Very high quality with that expensive Apple design.

No onboard battery but an external pack connected with a cable isn´ t exactly elegant compared to another popular brand.
With no motion controllers shown is seems to work only with hand/finger gestures and voice commands.

It must be targeted at a different audience than gamers.
But speaking from my VR experiences I can´ t see people wanting to wear these devices for more than a limited time during a gaming session.
They are fundamentally uncomfortable no matter the design decision.

Time is the only luxury.

Absolutely correct. This is squarely aimed at the Metaverse and similar app users.

I can wear my Quest 2 for 2+ hours no problem. My butt gets tired from sitting before the headset bothers me.

It has to be a relative thing depending on the user because if the VR sets are universally uncomfortable wouldn't the sales be a tiny fraction of what they currently are?

Sadly, Samsung prices have caught up to Apple. Even surpassed them, at current, top of the line phones.

The, "I buy Apple because I don't want to get a virus" thing, always made me laugh. I could buy 3 laptops for the price of a Mac Book.

Some of my coworkers were sold this nonsense from their kids. I gave up trying to tell them they are p*ssing away money.

Speaking of Apple, I've noticed that their stores are always jam packed with customers while the couple of Microsoft stores in my area are either empty or nearly empty. There's one thing you have to credit Apple with and that is brilliant marketing.

It's a cult, or more accurately mass peer pressure.
My kids generation (21 and 25 yrs old) If you didn't have an iPhone you were a loser. It was a status symbol. Yes I bought them iPhones, I wasn't going to be that guy. Right or wrong, I don't know. I said what I had to say, it didn't change their minds.
They are iPhone all the way. My son has to have the top model, whereas my daughter is fine with an older model. I lost count of how many iPhones (iPod and iPads) my son broke growing up. F*ck me. Finally we started buying the insurance. About a year ago I put my foot down and said it was time for them to pay for their own phones. My wife would still be paying for them if it wasn't for me.

As for PC's, I bought them Windows laptops, because that was what I knew I could troubleshoot. My son has moved onto PC gaming and builds his own rigs. He builds them for his friends too. My son went through a 2 yr period where addiction hit him hard. I gave him my new gaming PC, so he had something to do, after he decided to quit drugs. It worked out great. He latched onto the new hobby big time. He has been sober 3 years.
Some of my ideas work out biggrin He is a huge RPG guy.

BTW, we don't have Microsoft Stores. Really no need, they really only offer PC's and Xbox. They can be bought at multiple retailers.

The Apple thing is, or at least was, some kind of brainwashing or something. I remember years ago doing IT support for a company and our new graphics designer insisted he needed a Mac instead of a Windows-based PC. When we asked why, he said it was because Windows PCs always needed too much maintenance and support. So, we get him a Mac.

After that, nearly every time I stopped by to see his newest website designs, he couldn't show me because he was in the middle of running some kind of utility on his Mac to make sure it kept running properly. He was just convinced that Macs were more reliable, and couldn't see how much more work he was doing compared to the Windows PCs we had.

And yeah, Microsoft stores aren't really needed because you can get their stuff from so many other places, and get support from those places too.

I am 55. We did not get a home PC until 2003. (dial up for 5 years !) as I self taught myself online, plus learned things at work (Power Point, Excel etc.). I became more comfortable. Also bought a few PC games, Vietcong was my first, then came the original IL-2. Which brought me to SimHQ. (blame Ubisoft).
Anyway, my long winded point is, I was surprised how many of my coworkers out right refused to use or buy a computers. They still had the "it's for nerds" mentality. Or I don't want to learn. Some still to this day will not use a PC.
I built my second PC, I designed it to run the original ArmA (the follow up of Operation Flashpoint). I have built them ever since.
Ironically IL-2 1946 with BAT is my go to sim.
My interest in video games has dropped off dramatically.
