81 years ago on June 4 1942 the Battle of Midway was fought.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

So then doing some quick math, that means it was 6 years ago where I was fortunate enough to attend an event commemorating the 75th anniversary of that battle. It was held on the USS Midway docked as a museum in San Diego, and they even had a live feed from the island.

I find the sequence of events that took place during that battle to be fascinating - the code-breaking, the submarine that delayed a destroyer, the attack of the Torpedo 8 squadron - just so many things that contributed to the outcome.

Many people don't realize just how lucky the USN was at Midway. On paper the Japanese SHOULD have won.

Outside of our ability to read their message traffic, yes they should have. The code breakers were the force multiplier that mattered. Plus a great deal of luck.
