There is a song about route 66m isn't it. I remember hearing it on the radio when I was a kid.
#"Now you go through saint looey
Joplin, missouri,
And oklahoma city is mighty pretty.
You see amarillo,
Gallup, new mexico,
Flagstaff, arizona.
Don't forget winona,
Kingman, barstow, san bernandino.
Won't you get hip to this timely tip
When you make that california trip
Get your kicks on route sixty-six!"
Part of the Rolling Stones' set when I first saw them back in 1965! Ticket was 7/6d (pre-decimalisation. Approx. one dollar!). Sister in Law in France saw them recently and the ticket price way up in the Gods was 125 Euros. $130!
Some friends in our village travelled the route a few years ago on hired Harleys. I gather the route is not not continuous and somewhat over-commercialised; but what did they expect?
