Can't find a link but The Fighter Pilot Podcast has reported that SR-71 Pilot and author Brian Shul has passed at age 75.

From the "Habubrats SR-71" Facebook page:

"SR 71 pilot Brian Shul suddenly died last night in Reno, Nevada, at age 75, of a cardiac arrest. He is well known for his story speed check. He was a courageous man who fought his way back from a debilitating plane crash in 1973, His goal was to fly the SR 71, and he achieved his goal.
Brian died doing what he enjoyed the most, talking about the SR 71. He was last night's keynote speaker at the Nevada military support alliance annual gala. After his speech, he keeled over, and doctors in the house performed emergency CPR to no avail. Prayers for his family and his many Friends.
Linda Sheffield"

RIP.

I loved his speed check story and would always listen to the whole of it.

He was a great story teller. Met him at the Reno races in 2010, he was there signing his books. Got hold of a nice copy of Sled Driver last year, great book! You can tell he was passionate about flying, and loved the Blackbird, almost as if it was a living organism.

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
