Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

He may the last WWII MOH winner at this time but, since they are still re-writing Vietnam history and issuing MOH for that conflict, future MOH may still be awarded for WWII, too.

I remember when the last WWI veteran passed. Now we’re getting close to the last WWII vet as well. Always remember them!

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

I know the last US WWI veteran was an African-American who had served as an ambulance driver during the war. I think he made it to 108! Incredible.

Actually the last US WWI veteran was white, Frank Buckles. He was an ambulance driver and he died at age 110 in 2011

You're right. I got him confused with another WWI veteran.

The Greatest Generation will always appear to be in their forties to me. That's how I remember my parents. My dad was in flight training at Greenville, MS. My uncles, one a Marine on Iwo Jima and the other a combat engineer in Europe. My dads high school buddies, one who was also a Marine on Iwo Jima and the other in the USN. Then finally the kid who my dad's parents sort of took care of from time to time who jumped over France on D-Day. Salute and RIP to all. I feel a terrible sense of loss over what was, and anger over what now is.
