I've been listening to music pretty much all day today and it occurred to me that I've never heard a bass guitar intro that matches the one in "One of These Days" from the Pink Floyd album "Meddle". I'm sure you guys can think of some worthy competitors though. smile

One Of These Days is always the first that comes to mind for me. Money has a great bass intro as well. A much slower tempo though, but very prominent.
Seeing One of these Days live is a treat. I have a five times. I was disappointed that Roger did not play it last year. He did in 2017, it was great. Nick Mason's SOS band played it last year, Guy Pratt on Bass, fantastic. As most Pink Floyd fans know. OOTD is Nick Masons only vocal performance.
The best performance I saw was in 1994. It was practically sensory overload (in a good way). It featured a much younger Guy Pratt. We were 12th row, close enough to feel the heat from the pyro.

Apart from 'OOTD' 'and Money', then Queen's 'Another one bites the dust', you have more obscure examples from my youth:

They were so much more than 'Paranoid', which tends to be the only thing I hear from them on the Rock channels I listen to..

A bit later, and a couple of songs with great bass intros

Black Sabbath's was most definitely more than Paranoid.
The same can be said about Thin Lizzy. They were so much more than The Boys Are Back In Town and Jailbreak.

Decent top 20. Wrathchild should be higher, he was right about that. I have no problem with his #1, it would make my top 5. Higher Ground is a great intro too, originally a Stevie Wonder song, but the RHCP did a fantastic cover of it. Runnin' With The Devil and Dazed And Confused would be high on my list as well.

That's some funky bass being slapped down.

Barney Miller too! The intro bass riff rocked.

It's not widely publicized but the opening fuzz bass riff for "Think For Yourself" is quite good.

Maybe not the most dynamic bass, but Herbie Flowers provides the backbone to this Lou Reed song
