How can I open, modify, and save the .xdp file? I can open it with Notepad and just close to save but the game then tells me the file is bad and can't be used for the aircraft. I am deleting the .bdp file. Obviously I need some advice.

Morning @Captain Kurt,

I have no notepad, so I don't know this problem.
Maybe this: Does your notepad safe the file as xpd again?

If not maybe the solution, which @Pol has written in the following, can help:
SimHQ-Forum: Wings over the Reich > thread: Defauld zoom out > posting 11

Or have you changed the file?
Maybe there is something wrong now. One wrong space / sign can be the reason.

I have no other ideas, sorry.

Greetings

The file will be bad if you do not stick to XML syntax rules. i.e. only change data within the existing parameters.

For example you cannot delete one quote " by mistake and leave the other there etc.

e.g. :
<PadlockLimit AzimuthMin="-154" AzimuthMax="154" ElevationMax="90" ElevationMin="-55"/>

if you wanted to make Elevation Max 95 you can only edit the numbers - do not accidentally delete the " " around it.

<PadlockLimit AzimuthMin="-154" AzimuthMax="154" ElevationMax="95" ElevationMin="-55"/>

Also watch out for the < /> on the ends, all these are part of XML syntax.

Or get an xml checker to make sure you have not broken it.

When you save it make sure it's saved as *.xdp not *.txt (default for notepad).

for example in Notepad go to File, Save As, but make sure you change “Save as type” to All files (*.*) then type whateveraircraft.xdp as the file name, and click Save.

Change "whateveraircraft" for the actual name of the xdp of course.

Thanks guys, that's helpful. I was not getting the /> at the end. So the error message stopped but I am still not able to get it to work.

I am trying to adjust the pilot seat position according to Becker02's tutorial here: https://combatace.com/forums/topic/98084-changed-pilot-seat-position-and-crosshair-view/

After adding the changes to the .xpd file it does not change the view at all. I've also tried changing the xyz values to see any change and there is none. Is this something that will not work any longer with V1.37, or am I still doing something incorrect?

Make sure you edit the right aircraft. _QC1 is for QC _SQD is for campaign.

Again, thanks gentlemen. I've got all that done, but I still cannot get it to work with TrackIR. It works as advertised in the snap view mode, but that is not much good for gameplay. When using TrackIR the change is completely ignored. Is a different .xpd file being accessed by the TrackIR software?

Hallo,

Uff, sorry, I have no TrackIR at the time. So I have thought about a solution. Maybe scroll lock off can help to use once POV and/or arrows on numberpad to effect the view-change, but I'm not sure.

The way, which I have described to change and save pilot seat-position without zoom-change and to change crosshair-view, was like a "discovery of a hidden stand alone feature from WOFF/WOTR" for me. Every user can determine his own specific settings for every flyable aircraft. Which current WW1- / WW2-sim does offer this option? So it was my intention, that all WOFF-Fans (and maybe other WOFF/WOTR-interested people) can participate.

I hope, that a TrackIR-user knows the solution and will write it. Or maybe OBD knows / can find / can develop a way.
Sorry that I can't help more at this point.

Greetings
