"Action" movies doesn't have to mean full on athletics by the star. But it's a big plus.

I saw a couple movies last weekend:
1) "Red White and Blue" -- This film was difficult to watch. Pretty much every single character was a horrible person in one way or another, starting with the protagonist. Awful, awful things happen, including much revenge. I can't really say more without giving things away, but I felt dirty after watching and the feeling wasn't pleasant. If there was a likeable character in the mix, perhaps I'd rate the film higher, but alas, I didn't have an emotional attachment to what I watched other than disgust and unease. The film wasn't bad, but I would not want to watch again, either. ** 3/4 stars out of ****.
2) "Black Mass" -- This weekend had a theme, I guess. This time, the movie was about Whitey Bulger. I never paid much attention to the northeast, so I was never familiar with who he was, other than years ago when they found this guy on the run and brought him in. If this film had been placed in the hands of someone like Scorcese then we might have had a proper, jamming mobster flick. Alas, what we ended up with was not bad, but not a "Goodfellas" either. There was even one head slapping scene where everyone is together in a FBI office and drama was playing out when ta da! A phone rang and completely solved the crisis. That was amateur stuff. Maybe the true story actually happened that way? I don't know. Clearly the director had a different idea than what the public was looking for. Johnny Depp did a good job, but I often wonder how far he really is from the psycho characters he plays in film after seeing him in court. *** out of **** stars.
I need to find something that doesn't leave me feeling scummy after viewing.

That's how I felt after watching "Der Untergang" but I felt that way because the film was so freaking compelling and well made. The scene where Magda Goebbels poisons each of her children one at a time is one of the most psychologically messed up scenes I've ever seen in cinema.

I've been watching a few Brian Dennehy movies on Youtube. I find that he's an enjoyable actor to watch. The films I that I know him best from are Silverado, Never Cry Wolf, Cocoon and Rambo First Blood but I've been enjoying finding these made for television movies he made. One I particularly liked is "Perfect Witness" with Aidan Quinn.
Last year I watched a movie on Netflix called "Little Boy" and it was quite enjoyable. A colorful, imaginative movie from a little boy's perspective as his Dad and best friend heads off to fight WW2 and he's left at home with various adventures(many from his imagination) and other events unfolding. It has a faith element to it and is a good watch if you need something more uplifting to watch. He was superb in 1992's "To Catch A Killer". Great film.

Watched Waco: American Apocalypse, on Netflix. Most people probably know the details already. My Aviation Science professor in High School who flew F5s in the military wheeled in a television to the classroom so we could watch the raid as it happened. He was great. He even had us watch "Airplane!" in class once. The course was a year long and extremely technical, from ground school to aerospace engineering, but he was pretty cool.
