Well you're almost through the entire franchise, started about a year ago per earlier post.

What do you think of the series as a whole?

I'm watching DS9 through at the moment and when I'm done I plan to start re-watching all of Stargate.

I liked it, a lot. A lot of the characters were likable and the actors made you care about what happened to them. When
Dr. (Major) Fraiser was killed it was a punch in the stomach like when Wash was killed in Serenity.
Even the annoying or obnoxious ones were given redeeming qualities that made you rethink your opinions of them.

Where would I rate it? Pretty high on my list. I liked Babylon 5 better, and The Expanse as well. I’d say it’s a step above BSG, mainly because the writing was better. It’s in my top 5, definitely.

Glad you enjoyed it!

I'm really looking forward to seeing it all again.

And yes, that episode (Heroes) was a gut punch.

Something else I realized is that the ending of the final episode of “Defiance” was very similar to that of SG:U.

My wife and I have been watching SG1 yet again. Still the best SCI-FI series ever.

Just by chance I came across this video of SG writers singing lyrics that they wrote for the SG1 opening them, it's hilarious:

Stargate,
Its a great big world,
With a great big swirl,
Step inside to another world
Were talking stargate,
Its a crazy trip,
You can go quite far,
And you don't need a car or even a ship
There's Colonel O'Neill,
And Carter,
And Daniel,
And Teal'c
Look out for that Gggggggggggoa'uld

If Brad Wright, Joe Mallozzi, Paul Mullie, Peter DeLuise, Robert C Cooper and/or Martin Gero is/are not involved, at least ONE of these, I have zero confidence at all in the end product being worthwhile. If they go to an outsider as producer/showrunner then they will feel the need to put their stamp on the franchise and established canon will take a back seat. I have no interest in a "reboot", soft or not.

Sad.

Stargate Co-Creator Gives A Disappointing Update About A Reboot Show

Hey Brad, is there any news about the possible new Stargate Series? Thanks ☺️ P.S. Funnily enough, i’ve only just discovered the show thanks to my boyfriend and i’m a 90’s kid. P.P.S. Stargate Universe was the best. Please keep the big personal stakes going, it was great

Thanks! But you won't hear news from me. MGM did hire me to write a pilot for a new show but that was just before covid hit. Timing couldn't have been much worse. All the players have changed in the interim so it's likely destined to gather dust. Would've been fun, though.

While a revival is not in development at the moment, this does not necessarily mean there is no future for Stargate. As Amazon acquired the rights to the franchise during an $8.5 million deal with MGM, it's clear the streaming conglomerate is interested in the franchise. Seeing their success with the recent revival of the Lord of the Rings franchise with The Rings Of Power television series, it's clear Amazon is willing to take the risk to tackle decades-old franchises and bring them back to life. However, it seems their attention is elsewhere for now considering Wright's response.

Luckily, stars Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping have both visibly expressed their interest in returning for a Stargate revival. While the attempted continuation of the series with the Stargate Universe TV shows never reached the same success as the original, it's possible a streaming option would work much better for the series in today's environment. However, Wright reveals the creatives behind the reboot have changed due to MGM's deal with Amazon. Whether Wright or Glassner return to work on a possible revival would have implications for the series' success, considering the pair have been with it since the beginning. Hopefully, the two are invited back, and as time passes, there is more interest in Stargate. As of right now, all viewers can do is be vocal about their interest and hope for the best.

AMAZON REPORTEDLY FIELDING ‘STARGATE’ PITCHES, BUT ‘SG-1’ TEAM SEEMS UNLIKELY TO RETURN

Quote
The report comes via Dial the Gate, which cites reports that Amazon and MGM are in the early stages of fielding pitches and soliciting ideas for how to leverage the Stargate brand (which the tech giant acquired when it purchases MGM). That could mean TV shows, movies, or a combination of both.

Reports remain unconfirmed, but creative teams rumored to be approached and potentially in the mix (or at least on Amazon’s short list to approach) include Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (The Expanse), J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production shingle, and even some of the creative team behind Amazon hit The Boys. It sounds like things are still incredibly early, so take any report with a grain of salt, but it at least seems like the studio is keen to get something going in regards to new Stargate stories.

One person who it seems less likely to be involved is original Stargate SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright, who talked about the franchise’s future as part of a recent Reddit AMA (via Gateworld). Wright reiterated he’s “sure” MGM and Amazon will do something with Stargate, he’s just “less sure” it will actually include him or the world he created with SG-1 and Atlantis. Wright had previously worked on a revival pitch before Amazon bought MGM, but it seems that purchase has very much changed the calculus when it comes to the franchise’s potential.

“A few years ago now, MGM reached out to me and asked me to develop a pilot script for a new series, but so much has changed since then, including all of the players. Amazon is probably deciding what to do with Stargate as a tent-pole franchise and that may take some time. I wish them well,” Wright explained. “I doubt it’s because my script wasn’t ambitious enough, because it was huge! But it wasn’t a reinvention of the franchise and that may be what they’re looking for. I don’t know. I’ve not spoken to anyone at Amazon. I’m not keeping secrets. … I don’t think Amazon has decided anything yet.”

Wright’s script had aimed to thread the needle within the old canon as a revival, connecting the world of the original shows to a new story that still plays within the expansive canon and sandbox created over a decade of episodes on SG-1, Atlantis and Stargate Universe. But what will Amazon do now? That’s the big question. A soft reboot seems more likely, especially if Amazon sees franchise potential in Stargate. Fans no doubt love the original shows and characters, but that’s a whole lot of canon to be locked into for a potentially brand new creative team.

So Amazon is definitely planning a new Stargate series. But no one from the original crew of writers, producers etc will be involved.

So my all time favorite SciFi series goes the route of Star Trek and gets ruined by a bunch wanting to put their mark on an established franchise. mad

Oh and here is a poll Mallozzi conducted earlier in the week on what sort of show fans would like to see, pretty obvious Amazon is going for the hard reboot that few want.

Interesting observations that you can glean from those responses! What I distinctly remember about SGU is how it was such a blatant copy of the reimagined BSG. They were definitely going for the same dark atmosphere and morally ambiguous characters. Heck, even the character played by Robert Carlyle was very reminiscent of Gaius Baltar.
