Thankyou Njinsa, your advise worked wonderfully for me F15 and also F18.
Win10 F15 and F18 alternate method to dxwnd launcher
-------------------------- web ref begin Njinsa SimHQ
Just wanted to share something which might be come as a definite FIX for ALL Jane's F-15 issues.
Having sad that, it covers all quirks we all witnessed in last 20 years as both Windows and PC hardware moved on.
Works on Windows 10 Pro 22H2 desktop (Ryzen 5700x, 64GB, 2080Super)
1. Install F-15 as usual, apply v1.17F patch, install nGlide v2.10 for 3DFX (optional)
2. Get the DxWrapper archive from
https://github.com/elishacloud/dxwrapper/releases/tag/v1.0.6542.213. Extract dxwrapper.dll, dxwrapper.ini and also ddraw.dll and dsound.dll from 'stub' subfolder with the archive, all into game folder of F-15.
4. Edit dxwrapper.ini and change only values of follow parameters:
DDrawCompat = 1
SingleProcAffinity = 1
DDrawCompat31 = 1
FullScreen = 1
5. Save file and start F-15.
Menus should be responsive, menu text on briefings visible, no screen clipping, all animations work.
Game exits correctly, no CTDs so far.

Extra F15 important stuff
------------------------------
If you have removed movies you may put them back and they will not cause problems.
Added all movies back in Movies folder, animations play in single mission and other places like airframe and weapons. Not very important but if you want authentic....
****** This is key: Set win98 compat - fixes jumping out of program each time you select anything (looks just like alt-tab)
Tested accel function- works ok, fix not needed.
Music stays on and no choppy voice on mission start (tower talk)
**** Conclusion
This works well and is simpler than any dxwnd launcher fix, which I had been using.
************** FA18 *****************
So I figured why not try this method for Janes FA18 which has been problematic on Win10
I got FA18 going on amazing well on Win10 just like it works on Win7 with TSHv3 one click
1.
Do fresh install from ISO to C:\F18
Patch it- patch is on disk 2
Do TSH (v3) one click installer which will put files in C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\FA-18 and thats not where you want them.
Copy all the files into C:\F18 and overwrite all.
****** This is key: Set F18.EXE to win98 compat - fixes various CTDs
****** This is key: Use TshV3manager.exe and set resolution to desktop res, in my case 1920x1080, this fixes various CTDs
F18 in game options program res is set to 1024x768, I dont know how important this is.
****** NOTE: 2 - 5 are the same steps as F15 above
2. Get the DxWrapper archive from
https://github.com/elishacloud/dxwrapper/releases/tag/v1.0.6542.21(game res causes CTDs and instability)
3. Extract dxwrapper.dll, dxwrapper.ini and also ddraw.dll and dsound.dll from 'stub' subfolder with the archive, all into game folder of C:\F18
4. Edit dxwrapper.ini and change only values of follow parameters:
DDrawCompat = 1
SingleProcAffinity = 1
DDrawCompat31 = 1
FullScreen = 1
5. Save file
6. Run F18
*********** Conclusion
Works just like TSHv3 does in Win7, all functions, all menus, all training voices. instant mission.
So this new method really works and not just for the two Janes sims above, I am pleased.
