I never knew of this catastrophe during a JU-87 demonstration.

Yes, knew about this disaster for many years.

"outskirts of Poland" ???

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Stuka, the plane I never liked, but the Luftwaffe pilots hopped up on meth(pervitin) used them well. Low level clouds are scary--hard to tell from above where they will break.

And Hans Ulrich Rudel was the epitome of the Stuka pilot. He had 519 confirmed tank kills.

Fixed. A2G victories are hard to count as the Falaise Gap count has shown.

Where the ocean meets the sky
Thanks for the video, I had heard of the incident before, good documentation.

As far as i heard the JU 87 was not a bad plane when it comes to maneuverability and good-mooded behaviour, in any respect.
Regarding bombing it was well suited for this role, air superiority assumed. From Poland to Greece and especially over Russia it did have some success, but there were also a lot of losses of course.
I read it was not fast but able to outturn "any other plane" in circling, and Ju 87 pilots shot down some enemy fighters who mistook the Ju as an easy target. It also was able to fly on and land with a lot of damage.

re Rudel, the Wiki writes he had a record of 2530 missions in which he destroyed three soviet ships, around 70 landing crafts and 519 tanks. He destroyed another 800 ground vehicles, more than 150 AA and tank assult positions, four armoured AA trains, lots of bunkers, bridges and support lines. He also shot down nine enemy fighters. He sometimes flew FW 190 fighters with cannons to destroy tanks, in between.
When being wounded once more Rudel returned to his squadron on March 25, 1945, and flew more missions from April 4, 1945, despite being grounded and not having healed his leg stump. However, his tank kills were no longer credited, but were credited to the squadron.

Be it 100, 481 or more than 500 this is an incredible record, especially surviving the last years of the war.
And he was a die-hard nazi well into the post war years and most probably until his death –

I once read a book from some Mr. Valentin Mikula named "Stuka", have no idea of the author's background but he sure knew what he wrote about. It is a kind of novel, but only in german afaik.

Found this also interesting, especially the explosives to blow off the landing gear

Why I have not known about him before?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans-Ulrich_Rudel

He had 3 wifes. All his wifes were names Ursula!!

This kind of stuff happened more often than most people realize. Erich Hartmann and Johannes Steinboff were also involved with the US in some weapon development projects.

Are you really using a Hollywood movie as a source of history ?

Only a handful of the people working on the early US space program were German and only a tiny fraction of those were ever members of the Nazi party.

So those were not Nazis arguing with the Astronauts? No Nazis work on the moon rockets?

Wow, what a disaster. Interesting video. As for sound effects used in entertainment media, I would say the end of In The Flesh ?, the opening track of Pink Floyd's The Wall, is likely one of, if not the most heard uses of the sirens. I imagine most people have no idea what aircraft is on the album though.

2:58 the siren is heard. Say what you will about Roger Waters (maybe let's not, keep it out of PWEC), but one thing for sure, he was a hell of a song writer.

It kinda grabs you by the boo boo. Don't it ?

He can put on a pretty good show as well. In concert it was, sort of clear. (3:50) the landing gear should be a bit longer. My guess is they are shorter for safety reasons, due to clearance in some venues.
