A lonely mother gazing out of her window Staring at a son that she just can't touch If at any time he's in a jam, she'll be by his side But he doesn't realize he hurts her so much
But all the praying just ain't helping at all 'Cause he can't seem to keep his self out of trouble So, he goes out, and he makes his money the best way he know how Another body laying cold in the gutter Listen to me
Don't go chasing waterfalls Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all But I think you're moving too fast
Little precious has a natural obsession For temptation, but he just can't see She gives him loving that his body can't handle But all he can say is, "Baby, it's good to me"
One day he goes and takes a glimpse in the mirror But he doesn't recognize his own face His health is fading and he doesn't know why Three letters took him to his final resting place Y'all don't hear me
Don't go chasing waterfalls Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all But I think you're moving too fast
Don't go chasing waterfalls Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all But I think you're moving too fast (come on)
I seen a rainbow yesterday But too many storms have come and gone Leavin' a trace of not on God-given ray Is it because my life is ten shades of gray I pray all ten fade away Seldom praise Him for the sunny days And like his promise is true Only my faith can undo The many chances I blew Will it bring my life to anew
Clear blue and unconditional skies Have dried the tears from my eyes No more lonely cries My only bleedin' hope is for the folk who can't cope Wit' such an endurin' pain That it keeps 'em in the pourin' rain Who's to blame for tootin' cane in your own vein What a shame You shoot and aim for someone else's brain
You claim the insane and name this day in time For fallin' prey to crime I say the system got you victim to your own mind Dreams are hopeless aspirations In hopes of comin' true Believe in yourself The rest is up to me and you

I was living in Atlanta at the time when Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes burned Falcons' WR Andre Rison (#80...tattooed on her arm) Alpharetta mansion to the ground, burning his tennis shoes in a bathtub.

This is about as recent as I get, from 1994 (I thought the video and message were well done)...

You know the chorus was sampled from a Paul McCartney song right?

PM, I had no idea. I found his "Waterfalls" on YT and it's kind of funny, including "Don't go chasing polar bears" and "Don't run after motor cars".

Yeah, Paul had some weird lyrics from time to time. Check out the lyrics to "Junior's Farm" and tell me if you have any clue what he's singing about.

I'll check it out. I have that song in triplicate (CDs: All The Best, Wings Greatest, Wingspan: Hits [also have History]).

Remember this intro with Macaulay Culkin (Kevin McCallister) and George Wendt Jr. (Norm Peterson)?... (<- Had to look the names up, never knew Norm's real name [also in Forever Young]).

I distinctly remember watching the MTV World Premiere video for "Black & White" 32 years ago. Sheesh.

Wow. The thing with me is that I closed myself off so much in the mid-90's, mainly during a move from Atlanta to Jacksonville which occupied my energies. So these mid-90's songs don't seem that old to me, since there's very little I listen to between then and now. I wonder if my ~1995 cutoff is due to my age (I was 28) or was popular music going through a substantial change that I wasn't following (or both)?
I said something to my wife a couple of days ago that made her feel old (first time she ever said it, while the gray hairs are just beginning to sprout).
I said, "You know that picture of us in my driveway standing in front of my then brand new 1987 Dodge Colt?" "Yeah." "Well, when Cindy took that picture, Mrs. Gassie (who just died at 91, her house shown behind us) was the age that we are now (55) ."
Our minds are blown.

7 songs remaining to remove, to give me a completed Top 200. As many times as I've listened to these songs in competition, I'm reminded just how much I enjoy the Gap Band III album (pictured middle-right in old pic)...
I've already posted my favorite song on the album [Gap Band III] "Yearning For Your Love" and the silly "Humpin'". Here's 3 more, including the biggest hit first (meh...but the other two I never tire of, from steel guitar to harp)...

An excellent live recording of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is a song that would never be in my MP3 player. But if I was, which it isn't, just thinking hypothetically...I don't know how it would have gotten there. The Mrs. must somehow be responsible.
Yeah, we'll go with that.
A good idea for next movie night...
