Bah. I try not to think about many of my favorite musical artist's personal views/opinions/lifestyles. In this case, I appreciate Roger's PF contributions the most (and The Final Cut is just fantastic, including the lyrics in my sig spoiler). But I still like the direction the rest of 'Floyd went post-1983.

But no way DSotM would sound like it does without everyone's contributions, even if Roger's creative contributions were most important.

But a change was needed (no need for a third Wall album), and Momentary... was a nice change, IMO.

The crotchety old man stereotype exists for good reason. The senior years of life can be highly liberating as concerns about retaining the approval of others fades away with the reduced consequences. Like many things, that can be good or bad, or some of each.

For some people (often celebrities) it can arrive earlier when success has bestowed sufficient F*** You money upon them. Think of an artist who has invested their early gains into creating their own studio and distribution channels... they have taken a large step toward being "uncancel-able".

For others, it is a matter of waiting until retiring from the traditional work scene, etc.

@ Mark - There was a point when Waters and Gilmour did sort of mostly reconcile when Richard Wright died but that seems to have been short lived.

David Gilmour admitting to feeling uncomfortable performing The Dark Side Of The Moon, in it's entirety. during The Division Bell tour. Why ? because it was mostly Roger's work, especially the lyrics.

The Final Cut is brilliant.
AMLOR has 2 good songs IMO. Sorrow and On The Turning Away. The rest of it did not age well. The Division Bell was much better. And The Endless River....actually I believe another SimHQ'er described it perfectly in the past. The Endless Soundcheck. I saw both tours live. Both wonderful experiences.

And yes, after seeing Roger twice in July, he is obviously at an age that he does not give a f*ck what people think, even his long time fans. Sad really. He basically tells most of the audience to literally F off to the bar, right before the show starts. Sorry Roger most of us are here for the Pink Floyd songs, not the politics. 2017's shows were exceedingly better. I've seen him 5 times. I really doubt I would pay to see him again.
But to make him out to be a lunatic ? not even close. He is highly educated, and literate in all his strong beliefs.
He's no fool. If you only read headlines, yes you will come to that conclusion.

Actually, Roger cares more about his causes (war, homelessness) than he does in personal attention. He's had plenty of that.

I don't see a need for a rerecording of TDSOTM. No way you are going to improve upon the original, no bloody chance. You can't improve the guitar solo in Time. It's perfection. Re-do Us and Them ? why ? Leave it alone.

I would like to see the movie The Wall redone. It is showing it's age.

Never liked Learning To Fly. My least favorite on the album. The other 2 you mention are good songs. But I believe seeing songs performed live, always makes like them more. They did remaster and touch up AMLOR in recent years. David did not care for how it aged. Some 80's experiments that did not stand the test of time he said. I really should give AMLOR a full relisten, it has been a very long time.

This song always takes me back to 87 when I saw them live. It's a good tune. They opened the concert with Echoes, which they only did for the first 11 shows or so. Then changed the opener to SOYCD for the rest of the tour. Which they opened with in 94 when I saw them.

But in comparison to these, it's pretty weak

I think every Pink Floyd fan is aware that Roger Waters was the force behind all that is great Pink Floyd. PF on tour without him was to me a borderline tribute band. You can replace the bass (unless you're Geddy Lee or Jack Bruce) but not the voice.

I'm just glad we have what we have because TDSOTM (abbreviated correctly this time ) will always be my #1 album (followed by 2. Moving Pictures and 3. Aja).

The musicianship: The guitar in Time, the keys in Any Colour You Like, etc.

Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album. So 2017 when he performed Dogs and Pigs (3 Different Ones), I was in my glory. This past tour Roger performed a fantastic version of Sheep, the highlight of the show for me. I never thought I would see Algie in person. But in 2017 and 2022 I did,

Some quickie Pink Floyd stories...

1. Animals 8-track: Should I turn the volume down on the one F-bomb in Pigs? Nah. My parents probably can't understand the lyrics anyway, so I'm good. Not Now John (Final Cut) is a bit more obvious, but I was 16 or so and didn't care.

2. Looking over the inside of brother's new TDSOTM LP. Holy crap, someone didn't proofread the packaging and spelled Color 'Colour'. <- Even SimHQ spell-checker knows better.

3. Go to brother's house to see his new Phillips CD player (first CD I'd ever heard). Disc 1, the demo that came with the player which included "Tom Sawyer"...dam! Then his first (and for a bit, his only) purchased CD, The Final Cut. Double dam.

4. Smoking weed in the backyard after everyone had gone to bed. Coming back inside and lying on the floor with a pair of JBL L19's on each side of my head, listening to the entire Wish You Were Here LP. Whoa. Fortunately the added second living room was located far enough from the bedrooms that I never woke my parents.

5. My brother waking up the entire house one Sunday morning as a joke by blasting the TV being smashed at the end of Don't Leave Me Now (The Wall). Even his first component stereo was pretty good.

Colour is how we spell it in Canada, or how I was taught. It's a UK thing.The dropping of the u is a US thing I believe.

I like your brothers sense of humour (yes with a u haha) I woke my son up recently by putting a bluetooth speaker in his room, top volume, and blasted fart noises from a fart soundboard app. I videoed it. At first he is irritated, but laughs and calls me an idiot. Yes I am 55, not 12.

Back to Pink Floyd stories. If we were getting high (teens), especially if we were with someone getting high for the first time, we would play this just mess with their head haha.
