....of that blasted song 'Men of Harlech.'

Holy Earworm, Batman! Can't shake it. I may run mad. Any help greatly appreciated.

I recall the famous Blackadder scene...

Blackadder: Have you ever been to Wales, Baldrick?

Baldrick: No, but I've often thought I'd like to.

Blackadder: Well don't. It's a ghastly place. Huge gangs of tough, sinewy men roam the Valleys, terrorizing people with their close-harmony singing. You need half a pint of phlegm in your throat just to pronounce the place names. Never ask for directions in Wales, Baldrick. You'll be washing spit out of your hair for a fortnight.

Ahhh....such a stirring moment....helps when your unit is full of welsh tenors of course.

I happen to have that very rendition as background music in my version of WOFF. I may need to create a new version of my music MOD to allow others the chance.

I doubt you'll be partaking E hahaha

Perhaps a viewing of Joyeux Noel and its equally stirring soundtrack will cure you.

"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

.

The only known cure for an earworm is an even more nagging, burrowing earworm. I recommend the following...

Pvt 593 Jones sang that beautifully, or was it Pvt. 716 Jones?

Fine movie.

In 1942, a German agent parachuted into the fields outside Llandudno. He had orders to meet with another agent who was going under the name of Jones and to confirm the latter's identity by asking "Do you have a pig for sale?" So the newly-arrived German agent walked up to the farmhouse door and knocked. "Do you have a pig for sale?" he asked the farmer. "Sorry, boyo. I'm Jones the Farmer, and you must be looking for Jones the Spy."

Albert - I see you are a true danger seeker with that soundtrack!

Lou - You are a very naughty man. If I didn't know any better I might think you were enjoying my predicament.

I many have found a solution in another classic. "Aqaba. Aqaba from the land." I'll let you all know in a few days if it worked.

Pol - As for the Privates Jones, see above Blackadder comment about close-harmony singing.

Raine - Classic stuff, hearkening to the many 'Morgans' in 'The Englishman who went up a hill and came down a mountain.'

You all know of course, that they never actually sang that song, or any song to the Zulu's during that battle...

This probably won't help, epower, but will at least offer an alternative set of lyrics:

National Anthem of the Ancient Britons

What's the good of wearing braces,
Vests and pants and boots with laces,
Spats or hats you buy in places
Down in Brompton Road?
What's the use of shirts of cotton,
Studs that always get forgotten?
These affairs are simply rotten:
Better far is woad.
Woad's the stuff to show, men.
Woad to scare your foemen:
Boil it to a brilliant hue
And rub it on your back and your abdomen.
Ancient Briton ne'er did hit on
Anything as good as woad to fit on
Neck, or knees, or where you sit on.
Tailors, you be blowed.

Romans came across the Channel
All wrapped up in tin and flannel:
Half a pint of woad per man'll
Dress us more than these.
Saxons, you can waste your stitches
Building beds for bugs in britches:
We have woad to clothe us, which is
Not a nest for fleas.
Romans keep your armours;
Saxons your pyjamas:
Hairy coats were meant for goats,
Gorillas, yaks, retriever dogs and llamas.
Tramp up Snowdon with our woad on:
Never mind if we get rained or blowed on.
Never want a button sewed on.
Bollocks to the breeze!

Author: William Hope-Jones, Housemaster at Eton. Written shortly before 1914, appropriately for this forum. ;-)

Oh that I was back in the dear old PBI.
With no more Triplanes on me tail, nor tracer tracing by.
And no more flames and clickerty-clack and no more blooming sky,
And only a couple of feet to fall whenever I want to die.

Dezh,

You have brought back a fond memory of my Scots father from when I was very young. His stentorian rendition of "Woad" would echo down the hall from the shower. It was part of family lore and I had not thought of it in years. Thank you!

Happy to have been of service in bringing that memory to the fore once more.
