They claim the video was done with multithreading and DLSS. That's huge and could really hep with performance when it gets released.

Lots of shots of theC130, F4U Corsair and F4 Phantom. Also improved models of several different AI aircraft.
New ones seem to be the F6F and a CH47 Chinook.

Framerate dips prevent me from being effective in air to air combat, often. So easy to lose planes in trees and ground clutter when you get random framerate hitches. This is a big reason I fly mostly helos in DCS.

I would be curious to know what your PC specs are and what graphics settings you are using in DCS because I don't get any noticeable drops in frame rate during air to air combat. I have an AMD 5950X with 32 GB RAM and an Nvidia 3090 and I have most graphics settings in DCS set to maximum. I am however playing the game on 1920x1080.

Try turning civillian traffic off. For some reason that causes big hits to performance.

Well I play online, so that may be a big part of the drops. Even a slight dip below a butter smooth 60+ is enough for my terrible eyesight to lose a grey dot in a sea of grey dots.

7700k @4.5ghz + 1080 GTX + 32 gigs of RAM until I get back to my Arizona PC which is 12900KF + 3080 Ti FTW3, so 7700 for the time being.

Online servers such as Engima's Cold War can often see sharp drops at random times. When in the cockpit of a Mig 21 with horrible visibility, this exacerbates the problem.

Sometimes I want to yank my 50 inch television off the wall and plop it onto my desk. My 27 inch is nice, but the 50 inch is soooooooo big and makes the dots easier to find.

Yep, got mine set to low, but may turn off completely when online.

IMHO while your Arizona PC is more than adequate to run DCS at high fps performance, the first system you listed is really subpar especially due to the 1080 which is largely an outdated card now for most games.

The 7700 rig runs practically every game, even the latest, at 1080p and smooth framerate. DCS is mostly smooth, too, but even the slightest dip is enough to lose track of another player. Lose sight lose the fight. Hopefully the multithreading will come soon.

It probably has more to do with it being multiplayer. That can often introduce stutters when it wouldn't otherwise. Varies on the server and how busy it is.

Don't really care about the "new" features.

They broke two things in their recent updates:

The default view of the F-18 is now zoomed into the lower left of the cockpit making it pointless.

You cannot uncage the AIM-9.

You can't bring this up on the official forums because if someone else brought it up sometime in the past that is considered "trolling" and you can get banned.

Well it warms my heart that Russians are dying in trenches from ass cancer in Ukraine at least. That is about the amount of positive things I can say about their bug fixing policy.

I had a similar problem in the Apache, but I fixed this by pressing ralt + num0 to reset my view.

The AIM-9 uncages perfectly well for me in the F-16.

Disappointing.

It's seems they are still just going for the eye candy...and aren't focused on immersion in any way. Been waiting for some kind of career system or dynamic campaign since 2011. I guess the official poll that Wags did years ago about the most desired feature being a dynamic campaign fell on deaf ears. Maybe the 2033 and beyond might address this.

Supposedly it's coming sometime after the multithreading updates. We'll see though. It's been one excuse after another for not releasing dynamic campaign system.

There was an update quite recently talking about the dynamic campaign and sounds promising:

Sounds promising...of course anything related to DCS and a dynamic campaign has always sounded promising. No biggie for me...the last module I bought was the Huey and made a decision not to buy anymore modules until there is something done to make me feel like a combat pilot in a continuing war. Not just a nameless airframe in skirmishes.

From the link you posted:

Quote
To increase the number of units in the campaign without over-tasking the CPU, only units that are ‘visible’ to the player or that ‘see’ the player (eyesight and sensor range based) are fully calculated. For the remaining units, lighter algorithms are used which are based on pre-calculated data sets. It is good to note that when preparing such data, separate mechanisms are used in EDDCE to easily process all upcoming equipment and weapons which will be added to DCS. To ensure that unit calculations do not negatively affect gameplay, seamless transitions between the lighter and the fully-fledged calculation models have been implemented. This will allow the player to see all the units in their correct place, performing their tasks while moving across the entire map. When interacting with the player, all units use the normal DCS algorithms.

Honestly...this sounds just like the "bubble" slider from Falcon 4.0 had in 1998. Not exactly revolutionary.

DCS is a resource hog, if they were to introduce a dynamic campaign now it would only become more so. Getting multithreading working first IS the proper course of action.

Yep. Bubbles work. X4 uses bubbles, too, by dividing the map into sectors and only the one you are in is rendered in full detail, while the rest are background sim. Falcon 4 was revolutionary for its time, and still is.

Precisely.

It's not just a dynamic career or campaign system that keeps me from playing DCS.

I would think being a flight simmer makes a lot of us somewhat "conflict historians" to some degree. DCS has planes spanning from WW1 to modern day...yet what historical war can I recreate with period correct Air/Land/Sea assets and terrain to make it believable?

It's been awhile so maybe things have changed...but I don't think I can recreate any wars with DCS...except maybe Desert Storm or after? Vietnam? nope. Korea? nope. WWII? nope. WW1?

I'm not really an online flyer so I rely on immersion for my flying enjoyment...DCS has never scratched that itch for me.

I think you meant from WWII to modern day.
