I started out playing 1942 and WOTR with a Thrustmaster 1600 HOTAS set up. Found the throttle to be sticky and non linear. So I went out and purchased a VKB Gladiator NXT with the Space Combat Grip Module. Had a bunch of issues with WOTR, but with their customer support (which was great) and some of our members, those were fixed. NO issues with 1942. I just purchased 4X:Foundations to play while waiting for the WOTR update or new DLC and waiting for Starfield to finally come out. 4X would prolly play easier with a HOTAS set up as opposed to a single flight stick. I pulled out the Thrustmaster but my wireless mouse went nuts. So long story short, looking to buy a decent HOTAS set up. Saw a write up on the X52 PRO from Logitech and the Warthog from Logitech . Wonder if anyone has any experience with either?

Sorry, but also wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with a single player Space Game where you can actually fly around and do trading, combat, exploration, mining...etc. Not really wanting to play another MMO.

thanks,
Snow

Yes. X4 is awesome, and does all of the above. There is nothing else that does the combination better. I have a pretty large empire in the game. smile

I can't believe my Saitek X52 is still rocking solid after over 15 years! I friggin' love that thing!

Modded HOTAS Cougar(halls, gimbals Uber II NXT) which is stick and throttle + modded CH Pro Pedals + Track IR. You want a full HOTAS setup for the best feel. Select split throttle in the game so mid on throttle is neutral, forward from there is forward, back is back. My microstick on the throttle are my strafe thrusters in four directions and the pinky paddle is flight assist off, which is essential to proper combat flight in space(or even general maneuvering). Fly like a spacecraft, not a plane.

This is X4, well, the closest we can get to these classics:

For now... Who knows what someone might try and create in a game, next.

Would you suggest going with the Saitek (now Logitech ) X52 or X56. Or just go with a CH Stick and Throttle?

If I may make so bold, Snow, from this and other posts here and at SAS, it seems you are taking on too many tasks in too short a time with unfamiliar controls and too many different flightsims.
It takes a while to get used to a new control set-up and Flightsim.

You sound like you may be an older gentleman like this old geezer, who is 72. So we may share an 'old dog, new tricks' scenario.

I also purchased a Thrustmaster 1600 HOTAS bundled with rudder pedals at a very competitive price here in England after many years of using CH Products. I despaired at first, setting up and adjusting to new buttons and rotaries, competing with muscle-memory of the old kit in the urgency of instinctive online virtual 'aerial knife-fights'. So much so that I withdrew from Multiplayer servers. After a year, I am getting the confidence back to face human 'flyers' on PVP servers.

Not being of a technical bent doesn't help of course, I am still struggling with the mysteries of the WOFF 'workshop', unable to get the sim to recognise the rudder pedals, resorting to the twist grip or rudder flapper on the throttle.

This is not a criticism, but observation of my own experiences and those of the 'Squadron' I 'flew' with, the majority who are or were pilots both commercial and military with many years of flying as their job.
I wish you well in your endeavours sirrah!

I've been using the same CH Products FighterStick since 1998. Control Manager in Win11 seems to be working!

Hey, any thoughts or insights as to whether the CH Products MFP will work under Windows 11? I haven't been able to get it to work in Windows 10.

What a cool product. Too bad it never took off. (pun intended).

Seems to be! I've tested two in a .map and both are pressing the appropriate keys...

Thanks! I'll try it in Windows 11 then - in Windows 10 it's not recognized by the OS and I can't get Control Manager to see it as a device.

Thanks BD-123, I am surely an old geezer. I have settled down into two games that I am enjoying a lot. The first is WOTR and/or 1946. Both of those are set up very similar on my flight stick, though I am considering adding a Throttle Assembly as my next piece and then a set of pedals. AS I spend over 1/2 of the year in an area where Internet is still on telephone wires, I am pretty limited to single player games. One of my old gaming buddies picked up 4XFoundations and it has a number of story lines that involve controlling a space craft and is more of a Role Playing Game but also a single player game. Wish I could have the connection needed for on line play but I traded that for a place in the mountains with no neighbors and 100 miles to town.

Sounds idyllic!
I feel your pain though. Until a couple of years ago we were in a similar situation regarding internet speeds and our village is only 6 miles from the nearest city!
I would be on the verge of a spectacular kill after a hard fight on the SAS server, someone in the house would compose an email and my ping would rocket to over 2,000 and I'd be kicked!
Grateful for the 25 meg we have now.
