Ok, I'll bite.

Two things I see:

1 - All the planes for both sides are on one selection screen. Don't see the advantage to that, although it might be nice to finally expand the number of planes per side beyond the 16/14 split we've had since day 1................If that's what you're hinting at.

2 - No minipics on the mission page nor alternately, the name of the aircraft taken from the string files.

What am I missing?

Modred uses 1.28c for the 640x480 screens and the hangar sprites.
1.28c has no plane-sets and lacked a heap of other things that were added after 1.28c.

This is a re-worked 1.29 exe which uses 640x480 screens.
It has plane-sets and there is a pack of 8 available for each theatre.
Some theatres have the original skin and FM files and do not have a planeset in the theatre folder.

Mission time can be set based on sunrise and sunset.

Minipics can be turned off or on.

The flashing colours on the main menu screen can be turned off or on.

It can use flexible tilemaps- I was using Little BoB which has a 148x95 eaw32.tm file.

OK. I guess, but honestly, I don’t see why anyone would use these old execs when there are better alternatives.

In the 1.29 code I was modifying the routine to display the hangar sprites had been remmed out because of the 1024x 768 screens and the wide range of theatres that did not use them.
As this version is 640x480 I re-instated them. However, I used the same trick that I used for the minipic and flashing main-screen colours where the exe looks for a file in the root folder, the theatre folder; or the plane-set folder. If one is found, the routine does not run.

So this is effectively a 1.29 for 640x480 screens?

I had a load of stuff set up for 1.29, including a day by day version of Dunkirk. Would need resized screens obvs.

I have just added a 640x480 Dunkirk from the OAW GoG patch.
The purpose of the experiment is to run existing 640x480 theatres with the additional capabilty of 1.29.
I did not want to convert screens wink

You can still use the normal 1024x768 version of 1.29 for your Dunkirk project.

Moggy has a work-in-progress based on the early days of WW2 in Europe.
It has 640x480 sreens and I suspect that it was written for 1.28c.

1.28c does not allow true planesets because it cannot handle the "PDir.set" and "FMDir.set" files.
However, I was able to set it up for the 1.29 640x480 exe by re-naming the completed planeset folders as theatres, and putting the incomplete ones in a "XXXXXX" folder:

[Linked Image]

I created the "Alps", "Dunkirk", "France" and "Swiss" folders and made four "Dir.set" files which allow one of theose theatre folders to be referenced.
It works, with occasional glitches due to missing files.

There's a glitch. The Potez 631 has been selected. It is in the P38-H slot and is using the default P38-H skins, and probably the P38-H FMs too.

The original Planesets 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 have a number of empty folders. As I wrote it is a WIP, and it is far from finished, but as it is in 640x480 format it was worth a shot wink

Gone back into the archive and found that.

I have it in a folder named "EAW-128C-2016-May15th-Paras" which uses an exe version (128C(12thMay2016).exe) which used 640 screens and the dir.set system, and had the enhancement which enabled dropped paratroopers to turn into figures once they landed on the ground.

There were 10 "Planesets" of which only 6 had any work done.

Crossed posts Moggy whilst I was editing mine smile

Fixed. You had a "PLNSET0" folder based on Dom's AITW with the Potez in the P38-H slot.

Trying to wind the brain back to what we were doing in 2016.

I think "PLNSET0" was basic material (plane models and skins, ordhance, airbase etc) that was always loaded for these early war setups, a sort of Gamedata folder, in addition to the other basic material in the speech, ground objects folders etc).

Because of the way the dir.set system worked. when a proper Planeset folder was loaded, variant files in that planeset were used in preference to those in "PLNSET0"

With a bit more nostalgic retroism I have restored the original "picpln" alternative for single mission aircraft selection.

The "eaw.ini" entry of "OldStyle=1" turns them on, whereas "OldStyle=0" turns them off.

I sent Modred an installation link which I am happy for anyone to use wink

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yBDbx9B54w-dMQzS1kWewgAbHkoX3lqT/view?usp=share_link

Running the downloaded "UAW129_640x480 screens.exe" will create a "UAW129 640x480 screens" stand-alone folder wink
The "DSP128-9 2022.exe" can be used to select the exe, theatre and plane-set:

The later selection screen system has gone back to two screens, one for allied and the other for axis.
