Just had Norton screw up my WOTR game again. This time I was getting "ERROR COPYING GLOBAL LAYER-MAKE SURE MISSION BUILDER IS NOT RUNNING" When I deleted Nortion off of my machine, the game runs perfectly. Any suggestions on an Antivirus Program that does good protection but doesnt screw up the Games?

I use only the baked-in Windows Defender in my Win10 installs (also in Win8.1). Win7 on the other hand gets MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) that still receives updates. Low resource usage and smooth sailing with baked-in antivirus product(s). If you are on a "Pro" (not Home) install of Win10, or 11, might I also recommend the nice little (free) app called "ConfigureDefender" (allows for more fine-tuning of Windows Defender). The link is over here: once there, click on the green "Code" button and choose the pop-up option named "Download ZIP."

Cheers,

You mean it screwed up and you stuck with it ! Snowy! Norton IS a virus. I've used Kaspersky for years without issue .... after a rather unsavoury experience with Norton that I'd rather not talk about for fear of recurring nightmares.

Used ESET for many years, it's low profile in terms of resources too. It has never let me down.

You can get a basic Anti Virus NOD32 - I use the full package ESET Smart Security Premium which does all the internet/website protection, firewall etc.

I have to agree with catch, I had several low level Norton issues over the years (even 20 years ago) including where I used to work we'd get "power users" who liked to install it. Took lot of work to unhook it from our systems sometimes without nuking the PC (had to keep the user's custom apps). Also had similar issues with Norton Tools. As far as I can see it still causes similar issues now.

Norton is now permanently deleted off my PCs. Because of the reviews on a couple of gaming sites, I thought I would try the Kaspersky for a year. I will give ESET premium a try next year and see if there is any difference.

Thanks for the advice!

Windows built in security. It does a fine job, and no extra cost.

I’ve used Kaspersky for years Snow, never had a issue it’s been excellent..I used Norton once and deleted it within half an hour of being on my rig.

I use the stock Windows Defender, have used it for years without problems, you just have to make sure you keep it updated.
