YAWN. This franchise should have ended in 1989 with Last Crusade. Even the tv series "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" was a forgettable bore.

Considering the amusing plot for this movie, will we see Werner von Braun and Indy having a long drawn out fist fight in some secret NASA/Neo-Nazi facility? rolleyes

I'm getting a "Strong Female Lead" vibe from the trailer, which often doesn't bode well...

Not directed by Spielberg. Very skeptical.

He directed Crystal Skull…..

Spielberg has directed quite a few brilliant films but even he's not infallible.

Now you’re just making things up. There were no NASA launches from Glasgow. neaner

I don't trust Hollyweird in general these days and the description smells strongly of Anti-American screed. This gets a hard NO for me.

The actress (Indiana's Granddaughter) is the same lady who rewrote
the last James Bond film to include a lady ethnic 007, a more fatherly James Bond and to kill him.

In interview she said it was to add more life and humor, make Bond less of a bigger than life caricature and to bring the story into today's acceptable norm values.

What she is saying is she fuking ruin a good thing.

After watching the trailer a couple of times I have to agree with your observations. I'll be skipping this entirely as well.

I left my brain at the door and enjoyed seeing Crystal Skull when it was released. I will watch this one because it’s Indiana Jones, and that means John Williams and cool sets. Maybe it will be a woke-fest like the last two Star Wars films or even NTTD, but time will show. I will report back to you when the deed is done wink

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

I'll look forward to reading your review semmern. Your posts are almost always very insightful.

These United States of America
My hope is that they would make a decent Indy movie completely and utterly devoid of modern destructive agendas but I get the feeling that this movie has been unfortunately influenced by them at least to some degree.

Its also weird to see them using CGI for Ford in some places. I can understand them using it if they are showing a "years ago" Indy for a flashback scene which can be cool to see for the novelty of it but seeing them use it when he's on horseback is just too much I think. I understand he's getting elderly but they could put him on a good movie horse for close up shots(which I assume they did at some point?) and then use the stunt man for the more rigorous riding scenes and use some clever filming. Do away with the horse rearing stunt if Ford is not the one doing it. I think it would actually look better and be more meaningful seeing an older Indy NOT performing unnecessary horse stunts for the sake of creating some sort of "hero" moment. Its more meaningful to have the elderly Indy simply doing what he can and not doing what he can't. Maybe make a few spins with a good horse and ride away and then let the stunt rider take over for the more dangerous stuff.

I'd be curious to know what others say before seeing it. I disliked Crystal Skull when I first saw it. I watched it again awhile back and liked it a little better but overall it felt off and I did not like the weird post process bloom stuff they used and sometimes the movie seemed to come off as a caricature of itself and not natural. Also the vine swinging with the monkeys was too much. Most of the stunts we see in the Indy films at least hover around the possible or practical but that scene wasn't great. Just using the Russian vehicle column plowing through the jungle is enough for a spectacle without adding something that detracts from the immersion.

I don't think anything will ever top Last Crusade. We've come into an age where movies of yesteryear simply can't be made anymore I think. I miss 35mm, I miss a generation of actors who brought something of a lived life to their work and I miss writing that's not afraid to be genuine, not deterred by nor bullied into favoring the backward fancies of people and groups with agendas. There were always bad movies decades ago but they only seem to be getting worse and worse with greater frequency.

Great post Coot and since I'll be skipping this movie I will also be curious to read what others thought of it. With Hollywood, you see these movie franchises overstay their welcome all the time and the Indiana Jones franchise is one of those.

Indy 5 blew its load at the box office a long time ago so Disney is anxious to get revenue from other sources before it is too late. The bottom line is that this movie was a big money loser for Disney.
