After spending about a week trying to get my VKB flightstick to work on Wings Over The Reich, I think I am giving up in spite of the valiant efforts of the WOTR support person named Mark. I really like the game so I have only two options that I can think of. I can go back to thevT16000 HOTAS that worked, but felt like a plastic toy or try a different HOTAS. With Christmas rapidly approaching, the Warthog is out. That leaves the Logitech X56 (I think that is the right model number). Is anyone using that HOTAS and will you give me your opinion on it? Thanks.

Sounds like you want an all metal HOTAS such as the Warthog, so why settle for less? Bide your time, save your pennies and get what you ultimately want. Nothing beats the feel of cold metal as it warms to your touch.

Have you had any issues with the Warthog?

I have a 16 year old modded HOTAS Cougar... The predecessor of the Warthog.

I have a Warthog and had the joystick stop working after 6 or 7 years, and it was about $150 to repair.

As a comparison, I have the whole CH setup, using their pro throttle and fighterstick, as well as their rudder pedals, and I had to get the pedals replaced at one point, but they are local so I was able to go to their factory and they replaced them for free as a local good-will gesture - not something everyone else could do. I find the mouse-stick on the throttle to be a little jumpy, and the fighterstick pickle button seems broken and I often have to push it hard and wiggle it around to make it work.

I have the CH hooked up to a secondary gaming PC and haven't used it much the past few years because of those issues and because I like the Warthog better. I also have the Thrustmaster MFD button kit so it was easier to program it all when I first got it, but now I pretty much use in-game configurations.

I think the bottom line is, most of these sticks work pretty well, and each have their fans, but nothing is perfect and being devices that have moving parts and electronics, something is bound to break at some point.

Snow46 is likely having a software issue. Either with VKB or WOTR. Luckily both have great support.

It can be frustrating, but it's possible that you may have an issue with any complex joystick, but I think that is generally fairly rare. I am not sure spending the money on a new one would resolve the issues.

I've had the CH stuff, the Thrustmaster Cougar, and now am using the Warthog, MFDs, Saitek rudder pedals, all running on Windows 7, 8.1, 10 and now 11, and the only OS issues I've had were with Windows 8.1 and 10 wanting to power-throttle the USB connections and the MFDs didn't like that. I had to figure out the random IDs assigned to the MFDs and then go into the registry editor and switch off the power controls. I recently added the Simgears ICP and was pleasantly surprised that it worked without a hitch. Some older sims can only see so many controllers, so that was a problem I had with IL2, but it wasn't joystick-specific

I have a warthog, haven't had any problems with in in the ~9 years I've had it. My only nitpick is the throw on the throttle is a bit short for helicopter sims or aerial refueling, nothing of which you'll encounter in WOTR.

Thanks to Wango Tango, the folks on the SKB discord channel and a new WOTRKeys program, The pre is no more reason to change my controller.

Also thanks to all for your inputs! They were so appreciated.
