I'm enjoying this game so far but there's one aspect that caught me by nasty surprise.
Apparently NPC's can "invade" your game at any time and I've already died a couple of times from this. Even worse, you can be invaded by other human players if you are currently in "human form" as selected when you visit a bonfire. Unfortunately there's no way to disable invasions from human players so I guess I'll be remaining in "husk" form until I finish the game.
