I can see why some IL-2 players only fly against humans because the AI still gets some major cheats with the flight modelling.

Case in point: I'm flying a 1944 German Rhineland campaign and the Spitfire Mk IX's just boom and zoom into the stratosphere with no problem. It's as if they don't have to worry about stall speed at all. Their climb rate is absolutely BS. I'm sure others here have noticed the same AI behavior?

+1 agree,

Sadly i have put this one back on the shelf for that very reason...

And i dont see the devs really putting too much attention into the ai at all.

What a shame as this cud be an amazing sim.

No more green light until the ai gets a total overhaul as the whole thing dies without a proper ai.

the AI is 50% of what it should be, and its far behind dover blitz.

So are the extrernal damage decals.

But this is part of the methods undertaken in the last few years to make money.

I haven't witnessed any extraordinary AI aerial maneuvering abilities but I have seen some extraordinary AI gunnery skills, ie 90 degrees of deflection, single burst pilot kills from 500-1000 yards.

the AI has the ability to fly a ME 110 with the maximum bomb load like it was flying a p51-d or even a FW-190 D9 with half a fuel tank and no bombs or rockets or extra armor kits.

The same load out conditions that a human pilot will literally need to redline the engines to take off, and generally destroy the engines before you have hit 100 on the altimeter and gotten the wheels up.

Same load conditions that will make your plane stall out if you try to put the nose up more then 20 degrees

+1 masterKamera

I would say that most of the time when I'm dogfighting, the AI fighters flew as if they had absolutely no stall speed. The damage modelling is still suspect as well. I've seen enemy AI fighters with heavy damage on their wings flying as if they were still 100% undamaged. Quite often all it takes is a couple of small holes on my wings or on my tail and my turn rate goes down the crapper.

The strangest AI behavior I have noticed, and this has been going on for years, is when they perform extended negative G maneuvers that make no sense. For example, rolling 135 degrees right and then performing a level left turn.

thats such a natural thing for the AI..

im just curious as to how ive had to listen for YEARS that it takes 1,000 rounds of 50 BMG at 300 yards to kill a german fighter, but the AI tail gunner on a boston can take my engine out with a single shot at 1000 meters.

Not just a boston but on ANY plane. The sniper-like accuracy of AI rear gunners is really ridiculous.

Alot of the rear gunner AI is well noted, and perhaps has been given 100+ pages of discussion on the il2 forum.

What is never talked of is the bizaare pursuit/retreat calculations it undergoes.

Case in point, im flying a nic bf-109 E7, I strafe a russian, as i fly my turn around i see a pair of p-47s. I change course, strafe one, come around and finish it with a burst of cannons. In that whole process NEITHER p-47 alters course to evade or attack me. The wingman never does anything while i take the wingman out. And just flies while i drop on him and rip him in half with my 20mm.
