i though you guys have moved away from that type of deck design....at least i remember reading about it when i was a teen. also why estress the ship with a bomb run test ? if anyone is going to strike a carrier they will use nukes not anti ship missiles and certainly they wont be close enough for bombs. Not necessarily. Lot of variables there ..... who is attacking it, why they are attaking it (at war, only political reasons, terrorism, make a statment, etc ), and where the ship is located at the time of attack, etc. Since a carrier is a big symbol of America's might, even a failed attack would make a big headline splash in every major newspaper. It's not possible for the carrier fighter group to be airbone to protect the carrier all 360 degrees for hundred of miles.
Look up the SM-2 surface to air missile. USN ships which escort the carrier are bristling with SM-2 launchers.

I like the far aft placement of the island. I'm not yet convinced that the electromagnetic catapult is ready for operational use. And if reports that there are single point failures that can shut down all catapults are true, well that's just stupid planning.
