about the cartoons. did the dog die too ? The Queen had many, many dogs over her life. Inevitably, most of those died during her reign. Her last 2 are going to live with Prince Andrew & Sarah Ferguson. I wouldn't leave my dog alone with Prince Andrew. Ol' Andy would be reaching for the peanut butter.

Whatever ones opinion of the Monarchy and the Church, one can't help but be emotionally moved and impressed by the organisation, pomp & ceremony and the military precision particularly.
And me being a chap of 'a certain age' one wonders at the bladder capacity of some of the older participants on the long marches. I imagine marching at half-pace to be very tiring both for humans and horses. One could see the mounts getting restless toward the end of the ceremonials by the tossing of heads, but expertly controlled by their riders of course.
Great admiration and respect to the bearers. Remembering Churchill's funeral when the hapless bearers slipped on a wet gangplank. I've been a pall-bearer once and even carrying a light cremation coffin is a task.
The Coronation will be within a year, I was at the late Queen's, but don't remember it as I was only three at the time.

So how much did this Royal funeral cost the Overburdened British taxpayers I imagine it depends how you cost some things, e.g. all the servicemen/women would have been getting paid anyway although they would have been doing different duties. I suspect that policing will have been the major additional cost - overtime & accommodation etc. for officers brought in from other forces to support the Met. Of course notional costs to the economy of a day off etc. etc. But let us say £8-10 million. Some will say that every penny spent was worth it, the republicans in the community will be the direct opposite & every view inbetween.

I had sympathies for those having to carry SA80s at reverse arms for long distances/periods & similarly those having to carry halberds etc. - there didn't seem to be much (if any) arm changing.

Very impressive and stirring ceremonies. Quite the show.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

And the postage stamps, post boxes and Royal Warrants displayed by businesses will have to be updated. Also stationery used by government departments, the Armed Forces and Emergency Services to name just a few!

The British monarch is the official head of state so the coinage and paper money is changed as the monarch changes.

Neither shant I. I read that article that NFB linked and one of the ministers said the people would not want dour scrimping and scraping. LOL. The people can have dour scrimping and scraping in their own lives however. But they wouldn't want that for a freaking king. There is also mention of how Charles wants a more modern monarchy. It's a monarchy for crying out loud. Good luck making that modern.
It was also interesting to me that the article said 54% of citizens think the monarchy is good value for the money. I've long thought this whole thing a farce from afar. But since the people who actually live there supported it, what does my opinion matter. Their country, and they can do what they want. But 54% is right on the tipping point. Give it a few more years and they'll be under water on approval I think. Time is ticking. It should be noted that asking if it is good value is not the same as asking if the respondent approves of the monarchy. Two different questions. That number is probably higher.
Is Charles the last of the kings and queens?
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
