It should have been a warning that they waited until Christopher Tolkien died to make this show. Rings of Power is little better than fan fiction since they've deviated so far from the source material they've got the rights to use.

Watched the first episode earlier. I won't be watching the rest. Terribly boring and very odd casting choices. Super predictable and very much "by the numbers" diversity signaling.

As for "woke" - really? What's the problem with some black and female actors?
Exactly. This is a FICTIONAL world we are talking about here so things like race and gender for the characters are really irrelevant. This is not at all like the case of changing the race or gender of an HISTORICAL figure like what was done with that insipid Anne Boleyn series. While you are correct that changing the race/sex of fictional characters doesn't reach the levels of changing the race/sex of historical characters there are limits to the former as well. Captain Kirk is a man, James Tiberius Kirk. Not Janet Teresa Kirk. Well established fictional characters (and I think all Tolkien characters would qualify) should not be race/sex swapped. It worked in BSG for Starbuck only because the original BSG was, as much as we hate to admit it, a failed one season scifi show. The remake re-wrote cannon because it was much more successful.

It worked in BSG for Starbuck
And also Boomer and Admiral Cain. Yes, all for the same reason: lack of long term established cannon.

Wtached episode 3 last night. The woman who plays Galadriel may be a wonderful person in real life but she is horribly miss cast for this role ....she comes across as a spoiled petulant child with no charisma . I "may" watch episode 4

Got to get the fans acquainted with everyone first. Yes that’s how it usually works with a SERIES as opposed to a MOVIE where you only have a couple of hours to work with.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord_of_the_Rings:_The_Rings_of_Power#Viewership
This is the critical part for me. Any series that has a viewership drop from the premiere episode to the second episode should be of great concern to any show-runner. "Analytics company Samba TV, which gathers viewership data from certain Smart TVs and content providers, reported that 1.8 million U.S. households watched the series' first episode within four days of its release. This dropped to 1.3 million for the second episode, indicating that roughly a quarter of the audience chose not to continue watching after the first. These numbers are considerably lower than the 4.8 million U.S. households that Samba reported as watching House of the Dragon in its first four days, and was also behind the premiere numbers for Netflix's Stranger Things season four (2.9 million) and Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi (2.1 million) earlier in 2022.[197][198]"

Well, I'm really enjoying it... So am I. I realize that there are some continuity issues with the time squash but so far it is been a fine popcorn show.

Final episdoe is tomorrow. Online sites report we will have to wait until 2024 for the next season. 2 years between seasons is pretty much industry standard practice for big budget streaming shows.

A big part of why much of modern TV sucks. Get interested in a show and after 4-6 weeks it goes away for 2 years by which time you've lost interest or if you do still care at all you need to re-watch the first part to refresh your memory. A big part of why 90% of my TV viewing is of series that wrapped up years / decades ago.
