A-1 Skyraider is now coming to DCS in the future. Now we just need a Korea and/or Vietnam map.

Signs point to a Vietnam map. I just hope it covers the Hanoi / Haiphong area and not just the south.

Rumor mill has been mentioning it a few times. The video above was in the Marianas map.

ED will have to sort out the trees before any vietnam map is feasible. Firstly the performance impact, but secondly, and possibly more importantly, the fact that trees are currently an impenetrable shield.

An impenetrable shield that the AI can still perfectly see through.

But they look so much better than Flight Simulator/X-Plane trees.

They're quite nice for helo flying, which I spend most of my time doing in DCS.

If they make any changes to the trees, hopefully they'll give us an option to have the current trees. What I don't want to see is a reduction in geometry. If anything, I'd like to see them even more detailed, such as what is in Star Citizen--which oddly has the best terrain of any sim.

Oh man, I thought I was excited about the Corsair and Phantom coming, but this is most excellent news. Bringing in napalm in close support will be great. I can't wait to see how loitering over a target will be. A Sandy and Jolly mission to get downed pilots would be great. I'm sure the Vietnam map will be huge. Looks like I'm going to need even more space.

This would be my proposal for a DCS Southeast Asia map (see image below). The starred areas in the south of the enclosed area are Korat, Takhli and Ubon airbases, 3 of the primary bases used by the USAF in the air campaigns directed at North Vietnam. There are also other bases within this area that are not marked. Also in the Gulf of Tonkin, west of Hainan, would be Yankee Station where USN carriers would be located. The northern part of South Vietnam would be included for some “in country” close air support missions, the air base at Da Nang is also included. All of the historical targets in North Vietnam would be included, as well as many mission areas in Laos. The red lined areas are areas that could be modeled in lower detail for performance / size purposes.

The total enclosed area is 864k sq kilometers, around 150-200k of that is in the red lined "low detail" area and another 150-200k is ocean. For comparison the Syria map is 450 sq km, the proposed Kola map will be over 550k sq km, the Sinai map will be over 2 million sq km and the South Atlantic map (mostly water I know) is over 3 million sq km.
