Hello all

Oops I did it again.

If all goes well, Sandbagger will be posting the re-release of all my skins Mods, there are four now

All two-seater skins have been removed from the User Skins, More Skins and Alternative Skins mods. I have placed them in a separate Two-Seater Mod. So now there are four.

A number of new fighter skins have been added to the Alternatives for Staffels 37/40/41/41/43/44s/45/46/48?49 and 50.

No 8th skin pack was created for these latest skins. Instead, the 96 new fighter skins have been added to Pack 1 to fill up the space left by the removal of the two-seaters that were there.

There has been significant shifting of skins between mods and numerous tweaks and corrections. So, it will be necessary to download all four mods to avoid duplications and that warning message that comes up if you have the previous version of one of these Mods and add the new version of another that has some of the same skins in it.

The ReadMe files have been changed as well. I eliminated all the change logs as most of them are not really relevant and have become tedious and confusing over time. They could still use a little work but they’re good enough for now.

The most significant feature of these new releases are the Roland skins. These are possibly going to be added to the WOFF Skin Pack in the future, but I am releasing them in the interim.

The panels and fittings have been altered to represent six different production models, along with various new camouflage schemes. There are fewer unit markings and some new ones that have a historical basis.

I have moneyed around with the Pfalz DIIIa skins. I started out just adding some bling to a few, examples below, but ended up adding some new features to them. I, evidently, have no self control.

OvStachel is working on a complete refresh of the Pfalz, which will take some time. In the interim, I have reworked the lozenge wings and fuselage fittings on my modified skins, and I will rework some of the earlier ones as time permits.

The skins in the WOFF Skin pack do not have these modifications unless they are ones I modified previously for the Alternate Skins Mod.

When Ov releases his new Pfalz in the future, these will all have to be pulled and redone if they are not part of his refresh. The refresh includes a new mapping for the Pfalz skin, and the present ones will not work on it. But that won’t be for some time, possibly years .

I have made four new personal skins with these modifications for you guys to use for your own personal markings, or just to fly as is.

For references on the fabric application, shading, fitting and other changes to the skin, I mostly used, Windsock’s Datafile 21 and their “PFALZ DIIIA AT WAR!” volumes 1 and 2. The Wingnut Wings website was also very useful. Plus, I referred to mockups of OvStachel’s new work for comparison.

Those improved Pfalz skins look stellar, wonderful enough to start a new career as a Pfalz pilot (perhaps for when I find more free time). Thank you Jerbear for your continued hard work on the various skin packs.

Cheers,

The CII had a pretty different configuration, with the pilot above the top wing. Maybe it was a visibility factor or maybe weight....dunno.

Brilliant skins Jerbear, thank you.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Hallo @Jerbear,

I have tested @BB’s new OCM the last days with a test campaign Jasta 15 (I love the Alsace, Jasta 14, 15, 16 were there). So I have looked at your skins at „Alternative skins“ (skins for Jasta 14, 15, 16), „More skins pack 4“ (Jasta 14) and „User skins Pack 3“ (Jasta 15).
And there was one point that caught my eye and have confused me a little bit:
With „Alternative skins“ (skins for Jasta 14, 15, 16) and „User skins Pack 3“ (Jasta 15) I have seen blue-red skins, which were typical for Jasta 14, but which have been named for Jasta 15. And some pilots of these Jasta 15-skins were also at Jasta 14 (f.e. Bertold). IMHO it seems, thtat the blue-red skins togehter with the pilot-names are correct, but the Jasta is 14 not 15.

And on the other side in „More skins pack 4“ (Jasta 14) it seems, thta the pilot-names together with Jasta 14 are correct (f.e. Bertold), but the skins are not suitable (maybe Jasta 15-skins?).

Is it possible, that you have switched the Jasta-numbers 14 and 15 in these cases accidentally?

Thanks for answer and Greetings!

Hi Becker

I would suggest the following references:

Osprey's "Jagdgeschwarder Nr II"
Osprey's "Jasta 18, the Red Noses"
"Iron Man, Rudolf Berthold" By Peter Kilduff.
Osprey's Aces series for the Pfalz/Alabatros and Fokker DVII aces.
"Jasta 14 , Die Geschichete der Jagdstaffel 14" by Jorg Muckler and Rainer Absemeier

Berthold led Jasta 14 from Oct 1916 to May 1917, they used, at that time, plain varnished wood fuselages with personal emblems painted on the sides. Several of the pilots who would follow him to Jastas 18 and 15 served in Jasta 14, Veltjens for one.

He ran Jasta 18 from August 1917 to to 10 October 1917 when he was wounded again. It was in Jasta 18 that he instituted his red and blue paint scheme with white personal symbols. This was in honor to his Infantry branch of service.

When he again was given command, it was Jagdgeschwader II, which contained Jasta 15. He used his influence to bring the majority of his Jasta 18 pilots and much of the ground staff with him and have them placed in Jasta 15, while transfering out most of the personnel from Jasta 15 to his old Jasta 18. This was the "Berthold Swap." They took with them the red and blue paint job and Berthold ordered the other three Staffels of JG II to adopt blue paint schemes with other nose colors, Green for Jasta 13, yellow for 19 and white for Jasta 12.

The" New" Jasta 18 under Raben adopted a red and white motif.

It's a little confusing to follow, what with all the Berthold Swap politics, but the color scheme's on my skins and those of the WOFF skin pack are correct. The Osprey book on Jagdgeschwader Nr II and Osprey Jasta 18 are the easist to get and explains the swap very well. I believe there are some of the Jasta 14 designs on the Wingnut Wings site as well as many others and a number of publicatrions, theJack Herris books from Aeronaut Press, for instance.

Jer

Hallo @Jerbear,

Thank you very much for this expert-answer, now it iis clear!
I have known, that Berthold went from J14 to J18 and did lead it (and few facts more). But such a detail ... I have learned some points.

Thanks again and Greetings!
