Intel Plans to Raise Prices on CPUs, Wi-Fi Chips in Q4

Intel had a pretty rough second quarter. Its revenue was down 22 percent year-over-year .. One way Intel is looking to rebound from this predicament is to raise its prices in the fourth quarter, confirming the previously reported rumor.

[Intel's CFO] Zinsner says everything is about to turn around, thanks to a solid lineup of products and the price increases.

AMD 16-core Zen4 Ryzen 9 7950X CPU allegedly boosts up to 5.7 GHz

The flagship Ryzen 9 7950X CPU with 16-cores and 32-threads will have significantly higher clock speeds compared to “Zen3” 5950X part. It is reported that the base clock has increased from 3.4 GHz to 4.5 GHz for Raphael and the boost clock goes all the way up to 5.7 GHz, an 800 MHz increase. This SKU specifically has higher TDP up to 170W (230W in boost).

Gamers favorite Ryzen 5 series are getting a Zen4 treatment as well. The Ryzen 5 7600X will have the boost clock increased to up to 5.3 GHz.

The presumed specifications of all the R 7000 CPUs (and R 5000 CPUs for comparison) are shown in the attachment.

For quite a while, Nvidia and Intel have been using factory overclocks to push their hardware just ahead of AMD.

Now, AMD will be using some factory overclocks to compete.

Competition is good. smile

First AIB allegedly stop Intel Arc graphics cards production due to ‘quality concerns’

This is alleged by Igor Wallossek who confirmed this information twice over the last day.

From OEMs perspective there is just too much uncertainty in terms of performance and price. Intel reportedly would not give any price guarantee for Arc, which makes planning so much more complicated.

GPU Quality and performance may lead to drive the maintenance cost up, this includes higher RMA rates and lesser demand for parts that have unoptimized drivers. That’s why the production of ARC cards might have been stopped by said board partner

In other news, Intel is delaying (not stopping) release of GPUs. Hopefully, they will "figure things out" -- and provide viable competition sooner than later.

AMD spares no time, the review samples of upcoming AMD X670E motherboards are already in reviewers hands.

both AMD and motherboard makers are ready for launch of Ryzen 7000 series.

In fact, they are so ready that AMD board partners are now shipping X670E motherboards to reviewers.

According to the leaks, AMD is set to launch its Ryzen 7000 CPUs on September 15th, however the formal announcement is now expected in late August. The X670 motherboards are reportedly also launching on the same day.

Attached picture is from reviewer showing his Motherboard.

Interesting to me because I tend to buy Gigabyte items. Just my preference. Not selling them. Others may be better.

TeamGroup announces Elite+ DDR5-6000 memory compatible with Intel and AMD systems, costs 270 USD for 2x16GB kit

Our new systems (if built to last a few years) will probably need 32GB of DDR5 memory.

This price looks decent given that its a new type of memory -- and inflation. Hopefully, other memory makers will compete.

DDR5-6000 Memory To Be The Sweet Spot For AMD Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” CPUs, Will Offer 1:1 Infinity Fabric Ratio With EXPO

From what we have learned, it looks like AMD's Ryzen 7000 Zen 4 CPUs will most definitely have DDR5-6000 as their sweet spot, allowing a 1:1 IFC ratio. A 1:1 ratio means that the memory is running with the same frequency as the memory controller on the processor and that should offer a best-case scenario. .. The advantage that a 1:1 brings to the table is that it will allow for lower latencies and a balanced speed

Lower latency and synchronization with the CPU is something I want. So, 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory is what I'll consider -- unless test reports say don't consider it.

ÆPIC Leak is an Architectural CPU Bug Affecting 10th, 11th, and 12th Gen Intel Core CPUs

Intel's 10th Gen through 12th Gen Core CPUs, has seen its fair share of attacks over the last decade with exploits like Spectre and Meltdown, which still plagues the series of processors to this day, [including] rival AMD and their processors. Recently, researchers found that the three Intel Gen Core families were capable of being overrun by a new processor exploit, the ÆPIC Leak.

Researchers note that the leak is the first processor exploit "able to disclose sensitive data architecturally."

To avoid the vulnerability, which uses the CVE tag CVE-2022-21233, users will need to disable APIC MMIO or avoid SGX at this time.

Not a problem for most PC users.

AMD’s Entire Zen CPU Family Affected By SQUIP Vulnerability, Requires Disabling SMT

AMD's entire Zen CPU family seems to be affected by side-channel SQUIP vulnerability and the only workaround right now is to disable SMT [simultaneous multi-threading].

"An attacker running on the same host and CPU core as you could spy on which types of instructions you are executing "

AMD's confirmation of the issue (AMD-SB-1039: Execution Unit Scheduler Contention Side-Channel vulnerability on AMD Processors) is currently seen by the company as a medium-level threat and has the information and instructions on how to disable the SMT

Not likely to affect home PC use.

Latest AMD & Intel CPUs Including Zen 4 & Raptor Lake With VAES Instructions Susceptible To Data Damage on Windows, Patch Rolling Out But Will Reduce Performance

Microsoft has revealed a new bug within Windows 11 & Windows Server 2022 operating systems that affects the latest Intel & AMD CPUs.

after applying the new update, PCs will notice slower performance (up to 2x slower)

Microsoft states that users will have to wait for a month for a proper patch to be rolled out but till then, the only workaround to avoid data damage is to switch to lower performance on the older update.

Only a few applications are affected. W11 is still not perfected.

My Gigabyte RX6900XT is down to ~$699 at Newegg -- but back-ordered (I paid $950 -- marked down from $1100). Gigabyte seems to be aggressively lowering AMD GPU prices.

Many articles say Nvidia and its partners are sitting on well over $1 Billion worth of 3000 series GPUs.

At this moment, opinions are split between "Nvidia will lower prices" and "Nvidia will delay release of mid and low end 4000 series GPUs until later in 2023 to sell off remaining 3000 series at higher prices".

G.Skill Readies DDR5-6000 CL30 16 GB Trident Z5 Memory Modules With EXPO Support For AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs

Premium memory manufacturer, G.Skill, will be offering a brand new DDR5 spec under its Trident Z5 family for AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs with EXPO support. Based on the information we have got, it's looking like the memory module manufacturer will be offering its lowest latency kit in the 6 Gbps transfer rate range for Zen 4 chips.

operates at DDR5-6000 transfer rates and has timings rated at CL30-38-38-96.

The G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5 memory modules will feature AMD's EXPO (Extended Profiles For Ryzen Overclocking) support and will be compatible with AMD's X670E, X670, and B650(E) series boards.

I'm interested in low (preferably lowest) timings for my main PC motherboard.

This is early in the game. Other manufacturers may do better.

Most of us will need to upgrade the old mother board to use the new DDR5 memory. Yeah it would be nice, but i dont want to replace my whole systemm.

1. my motherboard doesnt have wi-fi, i #%&*$# HATE wi fi.

2. my GPU is good enough... its a radeon 5500xt over clock.. only 8gb ram.. but pfffttttt i dont actually game.

3. my GPU is stuck in the mother board pcie slot... the slot lock release lever broke mid swing when i tried to unlock it. in order to remove my GPU i need to send the whole PC to an ASUS repair center..

4. I dont want to buy a new CPU... mine works fine. Really it does. gen 3 ryzen 5 3600

5. 16gb ram is enough for my usage.

I agree with your assessment. If your current machine does your job -- keep it. thumbsup

My current system does all I want or need. Moreover, it does it with my older RX 5700XT GPU. In other words, I can't "see" the difference using my new RX 6900XT (I can "measure" a large FPS difference -- but, so what?).

My wife's gaming PC in her home-office is R5 1600X CPU with RX580 GPU. I don't replace it because it does the job with her games.

So, I just buy new because its fun and it keeps me "having a clue" regarding the topics in this thread -- its usually not necessary. To repeat, I agree with you. smile

Id love to get more ram, but the cost of getting the kits is a bit of a piss off... and im not fond of some companies that cannot make the ffort to make the ram chip/circuit board an actual rectangle with 90* corners

AMD Ryzen 7000 announcement August 29th, launch on September 27th?

We should be told the real launch date on August 29th.

Currently, AMD is working on improving the BIOS.

A lot of the BIOS is new because this entire system (CPU, Memory, M.2 SSDs, motherboard, GPUs) is a new generation. Moreover, all the motherboard manufacturers have to modify it slightly for their motherboards.

Lots of BIOS testing and modifying is not unusual at this point in the process of introducing a new generation.

FWIW: For those preparing to buy a new AMD or Intel system in the next few months:

Corsair Teases Next-Gen MP700 PCIe Gen 5 M.2 SSD, Up To 10,000 MB/s Read Speeds

Corsair rates their MP700 PCIe Gen 5 M.2 SSD at 10,000 MB/s read and 9,500 MB/s write speeds (Sequentially). The speeds will vary depending on the model (such as capacities). Compared to Corsair's current fastest drive, the MP600 PRO XT, the MP700 will offer up to 64% faster read and 41% faster write speeds.

Not selling Corsair. Just noting the Generation 5 M.2 SSDs will be enough faster than current M.2 SSDs that one will "feel/notice" it occasionally (not just "measure" it) -- e.g. possibly during PC startup, game startup, or when transferring lots of data.
