Ermey wasn't even that old when he died. He was 74.

It's not the age, it's the mileage.

I have no idea if Ermey was a smoker but I think the reason why I was so surprised with his passing at 74 is that he seemed to be a very fit and active person. He certainly LOOKED healthy.

We also don't know his medical history, nor what ailment(s) he may have been suffering from. Not all celebrity's share all that data. Nor should they.

I think I would rather 'get it in the can' for real than drink that abomination.

Quite a few US local/craft/micro brews are really good but I wouldn't touch any of the mainstream mass-produced beers with a 10 foot pole.

Same here. Up to the late 1970's, beer brewing was in a parlous state as the large brewing consolidates, producing bland gassy homogenised and pasturised beers, bought up or took over the traditional breweries and closed them down to reduce opposition.

Thankfully due to the efforts of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) that rose in the '70s here, thankfully traditional brewing saw a great revival here in the UK.

Though the Pub and Inn business sector is a declining state, accelerated by the recent Covid restrictions here. With many pubs closing each week, Nearest City, Worcester had 147 pubs pre-war; now less than 50. Nearest village of Upton Snodsbury lost 2 of it's three pubs in recent years.
However, where my youngest daughter lives in Whitechapel, London, all the railway viaduct arches, that previously had dodgy vehicle workshops or seamy cab companies conducting business within them, now house micro-breweries, artisan bakeries and bespoke coffee establishments. That's Hipster Gentrification for you!

That was a great post to read BD-123 and while I have no clue what most Brits think of it, I really like Newcastle Brown Ale which I'm sure is a widely mass produced beer. smile
