Babe was probably my first slow dance in Jr. Highschool. My " Wonder Years" period. It's funny, for fast songs, we had to dance in parallel lines about 10 feet apart. But we could slow dance. Heaven for a 12 yr old boy haha.

Crystal Ball is indeed a great song. I'm still amazed and puzzled how Styx (minus Dennis DeYoung) is still putting out new albums.

Just wanted to point out that my comment "^ Pieces of Eight is such a masterpiece" should be pointing to NH2112's post, not WangoTango's who snuck in some Conerstone a second before I posted).
Love "Crystal Ball" the song but could never get into the album. It just didn't have the same impact to me as Equinox, Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone or Paradise Theater (Kilroy Was Here was just ok, not in the same league as their 70's/early-80's). Much like Foreigner, their best stuff was released in the era of 8-track tapes (aka the 70's). I purchased Styx's Mission album (2017) but I seldom listen to it. IMO, Styx proper ends with Paradise (1981).

The same thing happened to me with "Clockwork Angels" by Rush. It's one of those albums that is ok while I'm listening to it but then a couple days later I can barely remember what I listened to.

You should really give a listen to “The Wooden Nickel Records”, aka Styx, Styx II, The Serpent Is Rising, and Man Of Miracles. Standouts:
Movement For The Common Man What Has Come Between Us A Day Little Fugue In G/Father OSA Earl Of Roseland Young Man Jonas Psalter Krakatoa/Hallelujah Chorus Song For Suzanne Man Of Miracles
Dennis DeYoung thinks The Serpent Is Rising is one of the worst albums ever released. I think it’s pretty darn good.

As it get's another life from a commericial over here, I checked out some details on this song:
Now, you 'murricans might actually not know that song - not at all, or not from this artist, despite it being rather big in other parts of the world in the late 80ies. If you happen to know it, it's more likely the version from Heart, which was at best a marginal success in the USA...
Interestingly enough, I heard/read people saying that it's an uplifting song, and based on their opinion, it fits here - I would have considered it more of a wake-up call or some such instead, but well...
It's certainly a very crowd-compatible song, with that chorous...
Now, if there was an Aussie here, he could tell us about the status of the song (a kind of unofficial anthem), and the artist John Farnham, who had an Australian #1 hit in five decades since the 60ies....

Is this song uplifting or just pure cheese?

Mr. Blue Sky is a classic.

I assumed, coming from REM, it was just more 90's cynicism with over-the-top faux happiness, like the big-smiling people in this video (although the song itself sounds much darker)...
Of course, the 90's had lots of these type songs which I don't mind revisiting for their melody as much as their message.

I've got one that's dated ("date" being the key word here, because Friday evenings have been our 'date night' since high school).
I remember driving home after work or to the Marta train station to pick up my wife, winding through the gears of my new CRX Si when this came on 96Rock every Friday afternoon to kick off the weekend...
<EDIT: After the ~1 min. intro, the medley starts again at 3:28.>
96Rock WKLS Atlanta Friday Five O Clock Whistle - FULL VERSION
EDIT: If I didn't catch the "Friday 5 o'clock Whistle" in real time, I had it on cassette (but with a shorter version of the first song).

The last classic rock station in the Miami area went away sometime in the first decade of the 2000's. Truth be told though, I have not listened to any broadcast radio station for several years now. All my music comes from Youtube or my ripped CD's on my iPhone.

CRX Si, nice. I had an 87 CRX, not an Si though.5 speed, fun to drive. Only having 2 seats actually came in handy, I couldn't be the designated driver
No kidding. I never knew this. I thought in SimHQ that only Chris (BeachAV8R) was a former CRX driver (I believe he had a red '88 DX, same gen. as my '89...and he racked up some serious miles on it, IIRC).
I actually liked the looks of the '87 better (without the dark glass back), especially the silver Si (what my wife wanted as we dreamed outside in the Honda parking lot after closing time...engaged and poor as dirt ). I was dreaming a little higher at the time, a new '88 Fiero GT 5-speed w/tops (and I still dream about that car...red on tan with the gold Trans Am-looking honeycomb wheels, but maroon on grey was also nice).
With the CRX, anytime we were with my mother-in-law, my wife would sit in the "back" (had to be a super-skinny contortionist to pull this off). Yeah, we really weren't so safety conscience in those days (like the time I rode all the way to Gulf Shores in the back of a little Mazda B2000 (cab fit 2 and there were 4 of us).

Like most responsible men, I keep protection in my wallet (in the form of assorted MP3 playlists for all occasions to protect my ears from awful music)...

No MP3 player in my car so it's the good ol' CD player for me.

I know Honda stopped installing CD players in 2015. I own a 2018 Civic. Satellite Radio, my phone or the USB (with 31 GB mp3) are my sources of music. I worked at Honda for 30 years. I miss getting a new car every 2 years.

A far cry from how that same event was depicted in "The Passion". LOL

We must be correct here - it's not the same event, but similar situations for the protagonists, in this case the "Life of Brian"
Fun fact about the song, or the Brits
Quote
The song touched a chord with the British trait of stoicism and the "stiff upper lip" in the face of disaster, and became immensely popular. When the destroyer HMS Sheffield was struck by an Exocet cruise missile on 4 May 1982 in the Falklands War, her crew sang it while waiting to be rescued from their sinking ship,[9] as did the crew of HMS Coventry,[10] with the line from the song "Worse things happen at sea, you know" being especially ironic.
and also
Quote
When Chapman died on 4 October 1989, the five remaining Pythons, as well as Chapman's close friends and family, came together at his public memorial service to sing "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" as part of Idle's eulogy. In 2005, a survey by Music Choice showed that it was the third most popular song Britons would like played at their funerals.[1] By 2014, it was the most popular.[11]
Heroes has always been a great song, but it was elevated to something special when Bowie performed it in Berlin in 2002. Such a great song!
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

'"Black Water" is great. This is another favorite of mine from them:

The Hollies had some great songs. Here's another classic of theirs:

Just goes to show that not all Aussies sound like Paul Hogan.
