Babe was probably my first slow dance in Jr. Highschool. My " Wonder Years" period. It's funny, for fast songs, we had to dance in parallel lines about 10 feet apart. But we could slow dance. Heaven for a 12 yr old boy haha.

Crystal Ball is indeed a great song. I'm still amazed and puzzled how Styx (minus Dennis DeYoung) is still putting out new albums.

Just wanted to point out that my comment "^ Pieces of Eight is such a masterpiece" should be pointing to NH2112's post, not WangoTango's who snuck in some Conerstone a second before I posted).
Love "Crystal Ball" the song but could never get into the album. It just didn't have the same impact to me as Equinox, Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone or Paradise Theater (Kilroy Was Here was just ok, not in the same league as their 70's/early-80's). Much like Foreigner, their best stuff was released in the era of 8-track tapes (aka the 70's). I purchased Styx's Mission album (2017) but I seldom listen to it. IMO, Styx proper ends with Paradise (1981).

The same thing happened to me with "Clockwork Angels" by Rush. It's one of those albums that is ok while I'm listening to it but then a couple days later I can barely remember what I listened to.

You should really give a listen to “The Wooden Nickel Records”, aka Styx, Styx II, The Serpent Is Rising, and Man Of Miracles. Standouts:
Movement For The Common Man What Has Come Between Us A Day Little Fugue In G/Father OSA Earl Of Roseland Young Man Jonas Psalter Krakatoa/Hallelujah Chorus Song For Suzanne Man Of Miracles
Dennis DeYoung thinks The Serpent Is Rising is one of the worst albums ever released. I think it’s pretty darn good.

As it get's another life from a commericial over here, I checked out some details on this song:
Now, you 'murricans might actually not know that song - not at all, or not from this artist, despite it being rather big in other parts of the world in the late 80ies. If you happen to know it, it's more likely the version from Heart, which was at best a marginal success in the USA...
Interestingly enough, I heard/read people saying that it's an uplifting song, and based on their opinion, it fits here - I would have considered it more of a wake-up call or some such instead, but well...
It's certainly a very crowd-compatible song, with that chorous...
Now, if there was an Aussie here, he could tell us about the status of the song (a kind of unofficial anthem), and the artist John Farnham, who had an Australian #1 hit in five decades since the 60ies....

Is this song uplifting or just pure cheese?

Mr. Blue Sky is a classic.

I assumed, coming from REM, it was just more 90's cynicism with over-the-top faux happiness, like the big-smiling people in this video (although the song itself sounds much darker)...
Of course, the 90's had lots of these type songs which I don't mind revisiting for their melody as much as their message.

I've got one that's dated ("date" being the key word here, because Friday evenings have been our 'date night' since high school).
I remember driving home after work or to the Marta train station to pick up my wife, winding through the gears of my new CRX Si when this came on 96Rock every Friday afternoon to kick off the weekend...
<EDIT: After the ~1 min. intro, the medley starts again at 3:28.>

EDIT: If I didn't catch the "Friday 5 o'clock Whistle" in real time, I had it on cassette (but with a shorter version of the first song).

The last classic rock station in the Miami area went away sometime in the first decade of the 2000's. Truth be told though, I have not listened to any broadcast radio station for several years now. All my music comes from Youtube or my ripped CD's on my iPhone.
