This is what tourism wants to hide from you, i never fail to shake my head when i hear a tourist asking how to get into this or that favela, they think everywhere is like rocinha, and even that is a fragile bribed truce.

From my perspective I have NEVER understood these "thrill seeker" tourists. I guess they are just bored with their lives? The ultimate example for me are the Western tourists who visit North Korea.

They are self-important fools who want to brag about how they experienced 'combat' by visiting a war zone in their air-conditioned caravan, complete with attendants providing catered refreshments. Just another poser, not unlike those tourists who think that they are helping solve poverty issues by giving tips to street urchins for a photo opportunity.

Yep, posers.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

If they were truly "bad ass" thrill seekers they would just do something and not worry about getting video of it. They're not thrill seekers at all, they are morons. These are same kind of idiots that go into dangerous places, get in over their heads, and then expect American servicemen to risk their lives and come rescue them.

"When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know.""

Plenty of bozos like that, who think that they are doing something incredible or great, like rowing/swimming across the Atlantic or walking across Antarctica. As soon as they get into trouble, they hit the panic button and EXPECT someone to bust their asses to come and rescue them. Yup, truly in the tradition of great explorers like Vasco de Gama, Robert Scott, and Cook.
