What I find hilarious about bands like Creed and Nickelback is that both groups sold millions of records during their height but now both bands are pretty much universally derided.
It's almost like it's trendy to bash things that used to have a very wide mainstream appeal simply because they were "too popular".

Both bands a posers. They became cliché. That dude in Nickelback wants so much to be James Hetfield.
Too many to mention but the ones I feel most pressing atm; anything by Jeff Lynne. I am not a fan of his massive misuse of cellos and as a producer imo he tends to be very heavy-handed, again employing those pesky cellos ad nauseam. As a vocalist he is annoying and nasal.
Anything by Leo Cohen. Man can’t sing and this “poet” thing is just pretentious and ridiculous.
All my personal and subjective opinions of course.

Good point. I thought that died out after the Beatnik fad of the late 50's.

True but you could also fall asleep listening to most of their music as well.

Helps to get the cheesy 80's VIDEOS out of your head! Music is to be LISTENED to (and then practiced on your own guitar/bass/keyboard/drums). Try a modern video...

Interesting that they seem to be widely unknown and not popular this side of the pond. Same could be said of many of the US 'Hair' bands of the time.

And the reverse also applies of course! Thanks to my Pan's People obsession I've watched many episodes of Top of the Tops featuring bands that were huge in the UK but were hardly known in the US. A few examples: Sweet, Mott the Hoople, Cilla Black, Slade, T-Rex, etc.

Then there's British bands who can hardly fill a pub in UK but fill large venues in US- Bush springs to mind. The reverse also applies, worked with several US bands who get better audiences in uk- certainly early in their careers.

The first artist who immediately came to my mind was Suzi Quatro. She was essentially a precursor to Pat Benatar but I guess US audiences in the 70's weren't ready for that yet.

Early Foreigner was fine. The later stage Foreigner had more cheese than a Monty Python cheese shop.

Lol. You like what you like, and hate what you hate.
For any ELO. fans, I just posted my top 20 ELO playlist on the "What Are You Listening To Right Now?" thread. Any artist who can give me 20, they're good by me.
++++++++++
It's difficult for me to wear out a song that I really like by overplaying it (same with movies/books/women). I'm just not wired that way.
But I can't remember the last time I listened to music that wasn't from a pre-selected playlist.

There are about 10 albums that were released after the year 2000 that I actually enjoy and bought on CD. That's an incredibly small number for a 22 year period!

Jimmy Hendrix, Roy Orbison for much of his career,a lot of blues musicians ... We are a small but influential market.
Btw imo Creed aren't that well known here imo but Nickelback are/were.

My disappointment with this thread isn't that some of my favorite songs/bands are being dissed (that's to be expected...some great parking mix-tape tunes mentioned, burned into the pleasant part of my memory ).
My REAL disappointment is that no one has mentioned any hit songs released in the last ~30 years (and I was curious)!

Not gonna lie. There is very little music I like Y2K on. Don't like Rap and I detest Bro Country music. Boy bands, Girl bands pass. The 70's and 90's are my favorite decades. The first half of the 80's was alright, but the second half, where every hard rock band had to have a ballad...yuck. I like quite a bit from the 60's as well. Autotune made crap singers into stars, that and YouTube.
